I think it might be a bit outside mine too! My tastes are more the Asterean and Kardashev end.

Spotify and mates send me new ideas.

But I have something like 20k tracks stored and like to put my legacy iPod in shuffle mode and I'm continually surprised and often delighted by an overlooked album track or an old Peel session track.

Plus I usually record all my own ideas (for good or ill....) and sometimes a  quick 30 second idea from 5 years ago will just appear and it'll suggest a new melody line.... and them I'm working on it again.

They managed to get some synths and strings onto a few of the tracks!

That's always a good idea, and it's also handy to have some well chosen influences on tap to get you into a creative frame of mind.

It's not unlistenable, but I'm not yet grabbed by it. Four tracks in...

Some albums are growers, and a few of my favourites started off like that  :)

New DVNE album today and it's good thus far. Bit growly on the opening track, mostly normal singing thereafter.

I like Taylor Swift releases as you never quite know wat you are going to get.

Good thread idea. I like discovering new bands and probably don't give greats of the past as much attention as I should. Will try and add a few things later, although I seem to have driven up a bit of a shoegaze cul-de-sac lately - who knew there were so many bands out there (and quite a lot of it very average...).

Although I like more experimental bands like Just Mustard, I'm also a sucker for wistful, dreamy stuff like this. I think I could spend the rest of my days writing tunes based on these two chords...

Still House Plants are back. This should please people who dislike instrument and genre changes on an album, but it will annoy those who are irritated by experimental postpunk music..

Jason Isbell and The National both put out spectacular records last year.

The War on Drugs have been on a fantastic streak for a decade now, though it's a couple of years since I Dont' Live Here Anymore came out.

The latest Olivia Rodrigo album is bona fide Breeders-themed excellence. I will die on this hill.

Thom Yorke also just released this which is just gorgeous.

I wonder if he'll ever go back to making music.

    ;)

    Bill Ryder-Jones - lechyd Da
Hurray for the Riff Raff - The Past Is Still Alive
    Waxahatchee - Tigers Blood

Different strokes and all that, but I think it's heaps better than anything she's done previously. Was a cool surprise when it came out.

The singles being released of the forthcoming DIIV album are quite good. I like how each of their albums has it's own sound, but still unmistakably them.

Lionlimb - new to me. Angel Olsen - not new. I saw her play a great gig just before lockdown where she was getting wired in to a bottle of bucky on stage. Such a great voice.

Since we're allowed newish albums from older bands, here's the last Thingy. Maximum amount of math that I can endure, but not your standard wanking/tapping instrumental stuff
