I got one but 2 hours of faffing with the worst software ever made and I returned it. Agree it sounds great but who has the energy for the software torture?
    Have to agree sadly.

IK Multimedia has their own way of doing things. Once you get your head around their methods and quirks it's really easy to use. When I first got mine I was on the verge of lobbing it out of the window as it was very frustrating getting things to work. But having got past that I can honestly say its worth the time to get to know it, as the sounds available are top tier as far as digital is concerned.

The Tonex software environment is awful to get to grips with. But the original Tonex Pedal is really good.

I've bought three sets of paid captures from Amalgam (Bartel Roseland, Tone King Imperial and Marshall JCM800) and they're all excellent to play through and give me the best digital amp sounds I've ever had. Still haven't tried Fractal, Kemper or QC, mind. I've loaded them all up onto the pedal and use MIDI to load the preset I want. I'm editing presets on the pedal to taste, and then (reluctantly) going back to the software to get them backed up. Most preset edits are adjustments to gain, EQ or compression.

I tried auditioning captures on the computer and transferring them to the pedal, but they never sounded the same, so I decided to audition them purely on the pedal - which is where I'll be playing them. It's long-winded, and not so easy for Tonex One users, but it works for me with the Tonex Pedal.

Editing directly on the pedal would be a big step forward for my particular usage.

I was completely baffled by the software at first, but I spent a couple of hours watching tutorial videos and (call me old fashioned) reading the manual, and it made a lot more sense after that. The software's still shite, but hardly an insurmountable hurdle.

I’d like to get one of these. I am a long-time user of logic and other music computer programs . Realistically is the ik multimedia software for the tonex one completely unusable? This pedal on YouTube demo’s looks and sounds brilliant.

I think it''s pretty straight forward and works fine.   But I use the softaware to save presets onto the tonex and then edit everything on the pedal.   I think some people are finding it a pain to edit the sounds in the app and get that on the pedal - it doesn't work quite the same way as neural, line6 and fractal editors.

No, the software isn't unusable. It's just an odd workflow for guitarists used to the "direct edit of presets stored on the pedal" and the interface is not what we're used to. But my use case gives great results as far as I'm concerned and might work for you, too.

To recap on my personal use case...

    - I don't spend lots of time browsing ToneNet for nice free captures (Tone Models), auditioning really poor captures, and trying to get around that part of the software
    - I've no interest in capturing my own amps, so I don't use that functionality, either
    - I just use the Librarian piece now.
    - I don't use the Tonex Pedal as an audio interface because I've already got one for recording
    - I don't spend much time auditioning captures on the computer because the hardware is totally different to the hardware I want to use for playing my guitar, and they don't sound the same when I port them over

    - I bought some captures from Amalgam, who have a good rep.
    - I used the Librarian part of the software to port them to my Tonex Pedal and auditioned them there, connected to a Laney LFR 112 powered cab. That, or through a PA, is when I'll be using the pedal
    - I made a few minor edits to the Presets using those captures and saved them back in the software using the Librarian. That's my backup.

In a band situation, I'm using just three presets, all based around the Bartel captures I bought. I've got a clean capture, an edge-of-breakup and a full power (which I use for solos). They were very balanced in the first place, but I've reduced the Gain on the EOB, so needed to push up the Model Volume to bring the levels back up to match the others. The Tonex responds like an amp (or as close as I need, anyway) if I use a clean boost (TC Spark) or an overdrive (Origin RDC or Ridge).

I use MIDI to select the preset I want to load (along with other effect presets), which isn't possible with the Tonex One, and it's actually the primary reason I bought the Pedal rather than the One. There are some twiddle-the-controls-on-the-pedal capabilities on the pedal which also seem more practical than the One for me.

If you can get around Logic, the Tonex software will be just another idiosyncratic bit of software to get used to. :-)

Ok thanks for your answers - that is more encouraging than some of the comments I've read.  Very tempted by the small version. I can always buy and try and keep or return.  Thanks again.

I was planning on putting tonex into power amp input of old Quilter Toneblock , with various 1x12's or 2x12 cabs I have. Would that be possible? Is that a good use of this device?

yep works nice.   Make sure you turn the speaker sim off on the Tonex one as usually it won't sound great if you're using a normal speaker

It's not what I do, but many others do and like it.

The captures that I use are the amp and cabinet captured as a single thing. I run into an FRFR cabinet or the PA (or both) and it sounds good. You can disable the cab output inside Tonex if you want when using an amp/cab capture, but most people say it's a bit "meh" if you do. I've never tried. I'm happy, so no need.

You can also buy (or make your own/download) captures that are just the amp. They're usually tagged as "DI" captures. That's what people use when they have a power amp and cabinet at the end of their chain. This sort of capture is also used by people who have their own IRs and like how that sounds. I've got some free ones downloaded, but haven't tried it yet.

Ok.- Can the cab be turned off on the pedal itself or does that have to happen in the software editor?

On the pedal. It’s a global cab on/off.
