I feel a plan coming together.

My new funk band have done one festival gig from which we've picked up a few functions in February and March.
However we haven't gigged with our new PA and in ears setup so we're thinking about renting a village hall etc and doing a free friends and family gig.

It occurs to me that we could combine this with a mini East Anglian Gear Fest.

It would go something like:
A load of us show up and nerd out about gear.
My band rock up and set up our PA.
Anyone who wants to can have a jam with my rhythm section (they are very good) and rock out a bit.
A load of other peeps show up and my band play a set.

That appealing to anyone and if so how are you set for the end of Jan start of Feb?

    Yup.

Are you thinking of a Sat afternoon & evening sort of thing?

    Yeah that sort of thing.

Any suggestions of appropriate pubs, function rooms, village halls most welcome.

It's very appealing in principle, but I'm pretty chokka for Saturdays in Jan & Feb, so I fear I won't be able to make it.

Fancy another band to do a quick, less tasteful originals set? If so, we're pretty much free any time except 31st Jan.

If not, no worries...I'll definitely pop along if nothing gets in the way :)

EDIT: Oh, and there's a village hall 5 miles up the road from me (Essendine) which is pretty much ideal for this sort of thing, but it could be a bit far from you guys. Strictly speaking it's still East Anglia, but only just.

I should be up for it.

May have a dirty box or two to bring.

    Any interest from @ESBlonde @Phil_aka_Pip @handsomerik @viz @bidley @photek @trotter @frankus @edgrip @goldtop @kebabkid @theprettydamned @dchwhite @fusionista @mattg @JDE ?

Current thought would be the Cedars near Stowe if they aren't booked up.

@digitalscream would be cool to potentially get some other bands playing. I've had another offer of support from a mate of our drummer as well. Maybe we need a forum festival :)

Sounds like a good idea! My calendar is horrendous though so not sure if i can come. But would love to.

  • I'd be up for it. Cedars is close to me. Saturday would be great. Sundays I wouldn't be free. Sounds awesome!

  • Colour me interested, keep me tagged in updates as I'll forget (totally didn't rock up to the last jam night...).

And a funk gig is always good. Probably a chance for me to steal some of your tricks, @monquixote.

Cheers @monquixote and sounds like a great idea "killing many birds with one stone". I doubt I'll be able to get there on those dates but let's see and good luck with it.

Stowmarket between Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds

    Just off the A14.

Also has a rail station on the London <> Norwich, Ipswich <> Cambridge and Ipswich <> Peterborough lines.

Traffic permitting I can do Ipswich in 2 hours from Bedford so Stowmarket is roughly an Hour and 20 minutes.
Best time to tackle the A14 on a Saturday is between 6 and 8 am. Plenty of places to eat and hang around in Stowmarket. Arrive around 10am, have breakfast and a mooch about and after lunch, head to the venue.
@Jalepeno I can fit an alarming amount of kit in my car plus a front seat passenger if you want to split the cost of fuel ?
