What's with all the TV adverts with breathy slowed down cover versions of tunes on them?

  • Why not do a thrash-metal cover of Bridge Over Troubled Water as a sort of personal antidote?

Have to be slow at this time of the year, we're all pissed.

Yes, this winds me up. "We could use the original, but that will take the focus away from our product, so let's do an anodyne cover with the personality removed instead to attempt to capitalise on the recognition and emotional attachment."
Why are you watching tv with vegetables though?

  • I may have missed the point of the thread; but, surely the people who care about this sort of thing are pseudo-intellectuals with nothing better to do?

Too cool to watch TV? Sometimes I have nothing better to do than get angry at tv adverts.

It's cheaper innit - don't license the actual song from the soundtrack of Grease, get some also-ran with lots of reverb on his keyboard to talk the lyrics over some ambient chord work. Sell it as 'stripped back and honest'. That's capitalism folks
    All practice and no theory

  • Seems to have become particularly fashionable over the past few years and like you, it's doing my head in! I've heard some of my favourite post-punk tunes murdered with that barely strummed acoustic, how fucking winsome can you get, breathy female voice. Every last drop of emotion wrung out of the song. Enough!
My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....

  • At least Burberry are using the Jeff Beck/Joss Stone track "I've got a spell on you" unadalterated.

Does anyone remember the AA adverts from a few years ago where they were all singing "You've got a friend" - except they shortened the gaps between the lines to save money on the running time of the ad, and you'd be sitting there singing along (if only in your head) and they'd come in too soon on the next line.  Drove me fucking mental that did.
Donald Trump needs kicking out of a helicopter

Offset "(Emp) - a little heavy on the hyperbole."
