I've heard loads of old and new stuff this year thanks to Spotify, but the three 2014 releases I've actually bought I've really enjoyed, and they are L'Aventura by Sebastien Tellier, Scott Walker/Sunn 0))), and Robert Plant.

  • BucketBucket Frets: 7751
    Ginger Wildheart - Albion
    LostAlone - Shapes of Screams

Those are the only two that really spring to mind. Might have a proper crack at it when I'm sober.

Ok, I have to remember what I got this year.

Springsteen - High Hopes (though it's no Wrecking Ball)
Pink Floyd - Is There Anybody Out There? (listening for the first time as I type)
Taylor Swift - 1989 (don't laugh, it's bloody good pop music)
Ryan Adams - Ryan Adams (there we are, back to credible MOR stuff...)
Gaslight Anthem - Get Hurt (won't win them many new fans but it's really good)
Foo Fighters - Sonic Highways (not their best, but still their second best LP in over a decade)
Gary Clark Jr - Live (miles better than his studio album. Properly captures him at his best)
I'm glad you said that about Taylor Swift, love the singles from the album so far and was thinking of buying the album, was just was a little concerned that I was turning into a 15 year old girl. I may give it a punt now though......
I only have it on my iPhone because i had to put it on her iPhone and was just testing my sync was working properly. Honest.

Also Lorde. Great album from Stan Marsh's Dad :)
Like Lorde too, but it's a 2013 album man, keep up!
Yeah, but I only got it this year :p

My nomination is Rented World by The Menzingers.

It strays into punky Gaslight territory & is excellent.
I saw them live in a triple bill with Holy Mess & Smith St- my gig of the year!

The other standouts for me are:
Smith St- Throw Me In the River
    Gaslight Anthem- Get Hurt
    Holy Mess- Comfort in Dischord
    Trophy Scars- Holy Vacants

WRT Taylor Swift- I liked it the first 10times I heard it, but it's on hard rotation at the gym I've been rehabbing my back injury at... I've heard it every morning for two months. Suffice to say I'm tired of it

I forgot about Ryan Adams too. Some great songs and lovely reverb on the guitars.

  • Reading this thread made me realise I've only bought two albums which were released this year; Richard Thompson's 'Acoustic Classics' and Pink Floyd's 'The Endless River'. Neither could really be considered 'new' music.

I need to check out some of the other stuff that's been posted....

    So I've only really listened to 5 albums this year that I discovered;

    Top of the list by a long way is;

Deaf Havana - Old Souls - probably my favourite album of the last decade by some margin. Since discovering it in Feb, it's probably had close to 500 spins.

    Then in no particular order:
Deaf Havana - Fools and Worthless Liars
Lonely The Brave - The Day's War
    Verses - Feel It Faster
    Mallory Knox - Asymmetry
    Mallory Knox - Signals

    Then:
    Paramore - Paramore
    Jason Mraz - YES!
    Harem Scarem - Thirteen
Better Than Ezra - All Together Now
Counting Crows - Somewhere Under Wonderland

The only albums I can recall buying this year are Ed Sheerans Multiply & Ryan Adams self titled album. Special mention goes to the Ed Sheeran album, it's fantastic.

Oh wow... I forgot about Burning Rain and Gus G! And as I forgot about them, I must also mention Grand Magus. And the Red Dragon Cartel album is really good too!

I think you deserve a wisdom. He's a talented one is Mr Sheeran. I think that's one album where the couple extra pennies for the deluxe version with the bonus tracks was worth it. There's really not a dud song on the album. Or on his first, either, really!
