Line 6 G series seems to be becoming the semi-pro 'industry standard', although I had an AKG WMS that never let me down and was cheap as chips.

  • That looks nice. I quite fancy a wireless unit - don't need one, but quite fancy one! :)

It's also a 'use once and wonder how the heck you ever lived without it' thing in my experience.

Might seem like ridiculous self indulgence in a tiny pub but in practice a combination of being able to  wander out front to check the mix, not having to worry about knocking mic stands (or whatever) over with a trailing lead, and a much neater stage area with all leads run well out of the way and/or securely taped down makes for a much more pleasant, relaxing, and downright safer experience in a tight setup in a crowded venue.

Being able to wander out, climb on the furniture, and throw shapes with any air guitarists in the audience on those wonderful occasions when the stars align, the audience is with you, and you feel you can do that stuff without feeling a complete idiot is just the icing on the cake... :-)
Don't ask me, I just play the damned thing...

I used a samson stage 55 for years and years and it was always perfect. From toilet pubs, to Manchester academy (3) it was great

All of these are reasons I want a wireless setup. Maybe I should set myself the target of paying for one entirely from my gig earnings?

  • The luxury of not having some chump stand on your lead in a very cramped corner of some pub - it's a thing of beauty.

Yeah wireless is so great even if you're not doing any guitar hero bs with it. I just got the cheap AKG one, it seems to add a little noise vs the line 6 one I had but not a big deal.

  • 10 years ago i had an akg analogue system and it was fine, line 6 relay g50 seems to be the go to now and i love its a pedal format, but not sure i want to spend that much. Is it so much better than the g30 to justify price hike? Any other pedal format recommendations?

  • I've got a Stageclix that seems good to me - can go on the pedal board or top of amp. The major plus for me is the built in rechargable battery feature but not sure the pros and cons vs Line 6 though...

Yes I checked out that one too. I'm going for the Shure GLX only because of the incorporated tuner as I can take off my existing tuner and replace it with the receiver saving board real estate :) Cheaper too

  • Yes - I couldn't find something suitable to replace it and I've got gigs coming up so I need to hold on to it until I can settle on a replacement. I was weighing up Line 6 stuff but it doesn't have the rechargablility and the Shure stuff has quite a poor range on their specs vs Line 6 (60m max I think vs 300m). So all in all I may suck up having to set up the StageClix every gig rather than have a rack mount just because it has all the other features I want. If I find something else, I'll move it on then!

  • Blimey how far do you move around the building at a gig LOL

I use rechargeable batteries and have a charger on my board - there are two in the wireless and 4 charging so a fresh set goes in at the start of each gig.    I like the idea of a built in charging system but what happens if it goes flat at a gig?  Can you pop in normal batteries as well?

  • If the worse happened like that I'm sure I'll be happy to just flip back to be wired as a back up
