but where from?

I don't want to spend a fortune and I want it fitted - so far my choice seems limited to Curry's, but if anyone knows somewhere better ?

    Fab

We just got a recon unit from a company based in in Wellingboro but also has a shop here in Bedford.

An all electric BEKO unit, double oven, bottom oven is a fan assisted, halogen hobs - it's a great unit, came perfectly clean with no damage and fully serviced.
Guaranteed for 3 months, delivered and fitted for £139.

If that's the kind of thing you're looking for i will go dig out their number for you ?

  • Gas, man, Gas! No seriously I mean the smelly stuff in the pipe. Lekky cookers are NBG trust me, I had one for years. When you want to reduce the heat under a pan you just turn the tap - you don't have to remove the pan to wait for a hot ring to cool. A gas oven won't dry your food out like a lekky one will. And it's still work in a power cut! Actually the latter was the main reason why I went to gas. I was fed up with being out of heat or warm food because of EDF not being able to keep the power suppy up when you need it. But gas is a far better cooking experience. In my last place I had big red bottles of it. One would last just over 9 months for just cooking and cost me slightly over £50.

AO.com. Highly recommended 10/10 on the Chilli scale.

@Phil_aka_Pip - you make some fine points but I'd have to have a lot of work done to route gas to the space the oven currently inhabits, so it'll have to be electric.

looks like I'd save a tenner at AO over Curry's on fitting, otherwise the price is the same (not so much choice at the cheap end of the market though)

We had our fridge from ao.com. Cheaper and better options on delivery dates. I'd recommend them. Had stuff off CoOp electricals in the past who were also well priced and had flexible deliveries. Our last cooker was much the same price everywhere on line so ordered it from Sainsbury just to get the nectar points, so worth looking at them or Tesco if you are a point hoarder, better than nothing.

Get a good modern electric and they're great. If it's oven only you don't need to worry but if you need a new hob too then the modern ones are generally really good.

We have a freestanding Smeg. Bit expensive but a bloody brilliant cooker.

Why are you paying for fitting an electric oven?

I'm sure our last one wasn't hard wired and plugged in. I could be wrong!

It's built-in, so getting it fitted is recommended - 20 years ago I'd have happily done it myself, but these days I'd prefer the peace of mind of getting it done by a pro.

If by built in you mean above floor level then I could understand that.

Ours is under the counter so easy...

We got the cheapest one from Argos at the time - about £100 and it's never failed to cook our food!

The neighbours got a new induction hob and I inheritated the best stainless steel cookware money can buy.  Ha Ha.

Get the smallest compartment oven you can get.  They waste a ton of energy and money and you'll have an excuse not to cook Turkey at yours next year.
