Hip Mod!

Been a guilty pleasure of mine for about a year now. But they have been making music for years.

They are starting to get a lot of recognition recently and have supported The Specials.

I guess I kind of like the fact that he spent years trying to sound like Marriot and Weller and ended up with this!

One of my favourite tracks...

  • To quote Paul Weller, "Tell Sleaford Mods that they're cunts".

I thought they were a Goldie looking chain type of thing the first time I heard them, turns out they take it all very seriously.

Not for me I'm afraid, I'm out.

That first video reminds me of horrible commutes on the number 9 trying to pretend the sweary, drinking, smoking teenagers at the back on the top deck didn't exist. Probably not my thing TBH.

I love Sleaford Mods - went to see them a couple of months ago, and live they were something else - very strange and intense atmosphere, never seen anything like it before

I knew they wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea! Especially on a guitar forum...

Are you catching their next tour @bloodeagle? I've got tickets and looking forward to the atmosphere you described.

I love the one album I have. Vitriolic spoken word over casio drum beats.

Late to the party on this one.....

    I'm addicted.

Trouble is, I want to REALLY listen to what Jason Williamson has to say and thus everything else suffers - including my driving.

Like the fact that they are in their 40's and coming up with something new , a lot of John Cooper Clarke in their sound obviously, but makes a welcome change from the endless round of telecaster toting skinny indie rock try hards. Jobseeker is a great song in my opinion.
If you can read this then my time machine works.

    Now that's punk.

Did Paul Weller really say that about them?  If so, I like them even more now given that Weller hasn't done anything good since the penultimate Jam album.

Some friends of mine saw them support the Specials, end of 2014. Despite being Mods I think wrong band, wrong time by the sound of it.

Weller has done plenty of good stuff since The Jam.

Got tickets to see them in Reading next week.  Thought I'd better sort this out as they're about to explode, I reckon,  Especially with the Hyde Park support slot....

Looking at my avatar people ask me if I'm a Mod, listening to that, if that's Mod then the answer is definitely "No" - not my cup of tea at all...

I agree - definitely not everyone's cup of tea...

I'm not sure they would claim to be mods either - it's just a band name.

Although if mod is derived from the word modern they might just be more 'mod' than someone with a Parker and a scooter?

A lot of their older tunes did sample what we would accept as being mod/60's music...and Williamson's look is probably a nod to mod culture. Fearn's image is definitely Sports Direct though!
