This. The technology doesn't exist and despite what everyone might think there is little political will to have these decisions taken automatically. RAF pilots joke about fighters needing three seats - pilot, navigator, lawyer. AI is not going to fight our wars for us anytime soon.

As for Jihadis using "drones" - possibly, but they'll be little low tech ones. The big ones need satellite support, massive support teams, extensive training, extremely niche and difficult to obtain technology, cost millions, etc etc etc. The R&D and manufacturing knowhow and facilities needed for military UAVs is massive.

Air strikes in Afghanistan killing civilians.

These tend to not get quite the attention on the 6 o clock news as shootings in Paris (guess it's easier to get footage in Paris than it is the boondocks of some fly blown desert somewhere).

Well no, I get that. But my approach, whenever I have serious discussion, is to put my thoughts... provide the supporting evidence for those thoughts... and then call anyone who disagrees with me a cunt! It's a pretty safe play tbh.
