Would you expect to try it fully cranked? Seriously?
Perfectly lovely lad come to buy a 50 watt Laney head and cab off me the other day. It was getting louder and louder. The kids were in bed. Then my over the toply 'make yourself at home' Mrs says "Turn it up as loud a you like!". So he did... and it went on for an hour and a half.
I don't know if I was more concerned the neighbours would think it was me or whether I was really quite jealous of the street filling bigness.

The main problem with people cranking the amp is that you then want to keep the amp.
Hour and a half....no.
I'd expect to turn it up a fair bit, but you don't need it flat out to know it works and confirm it has the type of sounds you're after. I can't see how that would take much more than 10 mins. I bought some pedals a couple of weeks ago and it took me 40mins to get out after listening to his stories - felt like a lifetime.

The cool part is that we know our neighbours well and they're fine. I supposed I was more shocked because when I'm buying unless it's someone I know I check it works briefly, check all knobs and switches, a few niceties then I'm out and off home.
My Mrs would offer Peter Sutcliffe a cuppa if he turned up. She can't help it. You did just remind me of a big negative - she gave him my Jaffa cakes.
I guess i'd be worried about their neighbours, if they have kids etc.
