Tremolos

What's Hot

So many Tremolo pedals available and I already have my favourites in mind but how much tweak ability do you guys feel you really need? I can understand the wave shapes etc but would you really care for the sub divisions that some of these pedals do i.e. eighth or quarter notes etc. I mean in a live situation which is 99% of my usage

I find subdivisions great as it makes the tap easy, tapping 16ths is hard work, especially if you also trying to tap different lengths on your delay.

I have empress tremolo 1, awesome pedal, simple to use but lots of features, new ehx pulsar looks fab too.

It's the jumping down to the pedal mid set changing the sub divisions that may be annoying that's all

We'll the empress tremolo 2 has presets so that would help. I also write on my set list what settings I need to change. Also I generally use 1/2 or 1/3 tap so only a few changes to make. I love using fx though, so even making setting changes mid song is kinda normal to me. Like anything just takes practice.

@hotpickups yep. you can save eight presets and it's all very user friendly. sounds brilliant too. wouldn't mind getting one of those goatherders to compare ;-)

It's a little bit too expensive for me for a dedicated tremolo unit :(

It cost me £120 (used) on ebay. I fancy a handpainted version but they are like £150 more new than the plain job hah!

It's nice and that's a good price but too big for my pedaltrain mini. It's for my small grab n go board so size would be an issue here.

    Demeter Tremulator?

Yes I've seen that but I think I would like the choice of wave forms that this pedal doesn't offer :( I'm still leaning towards the suhr jack rabbit

  • I'm also shopping for a nice trem, with different waveforms plus tap tempo (with subdivisions).

For me I think it's between the Suhr Jack Rabbit and the Catalinbread Semaphore Tap Tempo. Small form factor is obviously good for preserving board real estate. But is tap tempo usable without a dedicated (second) foot switch?

Can anyone compare and contrast these two?

I like simplicity. Currently have a Fredric West Germany on the board which sounds really beautiful, nice and deep and vintage. Does Bang Bang perfectly. http://www.fredric.co.uk/west-germany-vintage-tremolo

If I wanted something with more tweakability, I like the look of the Matthews Effects Conductor: http://matthewseffects.com/product/the-conductor/

  • @solar, I'm glad you like the Frederic you bought from me :)

I agree, it does a lovely vintage trem - but I want something with a few more different sounds. I'll check out the Matthews, thanks.

Get a line 6 m5. There are many tremolos and you can configure all parameters very easy.

Just bought a Suhr Jack Rabbit. After a long search I think it was the right decision :)

Just to follow on about Tremolos and the Jack Rabbit in particular. Why would one want a choice of buffered or True Bypass in a pedal (as the Jack Rabbit)? Is it when you have Fuzz boxes etc and can interfere with it etc?
