Depends, clean volume boost, post dirt, gain boost pre-dirt.

Example, using the amp for dirt

Clean boost - MXR Microamp - in loop

Gain boost,- Bad Monkey/SD-1 - into the front of the amp.

Ringleader of the Cambridge cartel, pedal champ and king of the dirt boxes (down to 21)

I used to use an SHO first in line more as a buffer to make everything sound more "sparkly" and clear. I've also used it after a quiet OD pedal (Boss OD2) to raise the level without altering it's grit.

Stops them from melting. Ask Marianne Faithfull.

    Allegedly..

Same as not_the_dj who somehow managed to pick up a LOL for that???? Compressor and low gain OD pedals first followed by an EP Boost into an OCD to push it and thicken things up and then a Catalinbread Serrano Picoso boost after the OCD but before my modulations and delays for a pure volume boost.

I've always gone low to high in boosts... so pre gain to push a bit more grit

However, some might rather a volume boost rather than a gain boost, so after gain

I only ever use dirty/gain boosts really though, so might be different on 'textured' boosts such as the ep

I go guitar > koko boost > XTS precision overdrive > amp.

I get a lovely clean boost from the koko, then if I'm using the XTS and kick the koko on it gives it a nice lift for solos.
