Here is a picture of my pedals thus far.

There will be a couple of additions - a second delay, probably a DSD2 or DD3 in the loop, maybe replace the dyna drive with an OD3 (although the strat sounds really great through the dyna drive set as it is... Tough call!) and there will be an FZ-2 at some point on there, too, and a compressor - almost certainly a Dyna/Ross comp type, maybe an xotic SP.  Something squishy and colourful.

The qtron could be replaced by a DOD FX25, which would save a wee bit of space...

Anyway, what boards are out there that would be roughly the right size for this lot? I did have a cheap cheap board that was about half the size it needs to be, but it was a no name one... And I broke it. :)

So something tougher is good. As far as power goes, I'm happy with the power plant junior - to get something capable of powering the QTron would cost a lot, and I may replace this with the DOD anyway...

  • I just ordered an Emma Amarhyll 61.  I'll let you know when I get it, whether my PowerPlant Jr fits underneath...

  • This just popped up on Gumtree.  Looks like a good deal, but it seems you're about as far from Manchester as I am.

there are a few Diago boards knocking about the classifieds for £50 or so
They are pretty robust and spacious
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

I've got the medium sized Diago that I'm looking to sell.  Given my lack of success so far I'll take £40 for it.

Where are you dude? I've got a Diago Showman that you can have, for free. It needs a bit of loving, but it's still a worthwhile case. I'm in London, so if you can get to me to pick it up within a week, you can have it.

That's the same size and price as the pedal train pt2 hc,   is there anything that made you choose the Emma instead of the PT?

  • I slightly prefer the look of the Emma over the PT2, and there is more of a gap at the back for threading power cables through. But there's not much in it IMO.

Pedalboard planner is quite good though not enough pedals, for example.  Dr Scientist The Elements isn't on there but their newer pedal the Cleaness is...weird.

It's a good starting point though, be sure to leave room for plugs.

Although I have an oddity or two on my board, I'm mostly going for boss and dod pedals - classics that sound great, built to last (well, the dod ones are a bit more delicate feeling... But apparently last!) and may appreciate in value in some cases. The ph1-r is, quite simply, the best sounding phaser I've heard, bar none, so much so I am looking for a spare. Just in case! Same for the dod fx65. And the delay is really very special indeed, and won't ever leave me - sadly, they can't be made any more :( but it now has electronic soft switching, which is neat.

I hope to replace the Qtron for something more reliable and tough, and I may replace the dyna drive, but it sounds really nice with my strat. I'll have to see how it is into a nice valve amp, though, as I know the od3 is very cool.

Basically, I should be able to estimate board size by replacing any missing pedals with what I'll replace them with anyway. Then add the ones I will be adding - dsd-2, fz-2, dod milkbox and a reverb of some kind, although I don't know much about them, I reckon the boss reverb is a sure bet for a decent Hall sound, or maybe the zoom ms70.

You should get the right sound for songs like 'Ain't no mountain high enough' with the Dyna/Ross.
Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.
