I don't think there's been a single property for sale in Buckinghamshire at £195,000 for about fifteen years...

Well that's another reason not to buy a house in Bucks!!

Surely people only move from Scotland, not to Scotland?

I grew up near Hawick, not a million miles from it now. Personally I really dislike the place.

I've played a couple of gigs there. At one - the Liberal Club if I remember - I got hit on by a couple of local girls who wouldn't have been out of place in Deliverance…

The drummer in my old band came from there too :).

The description is off. It says 4 bed house, then says it's a flat, only part of a house, in the small print. Still waaaay cheaper than anything you'd get down our way though.

    Cheeky…

    How typical of estate agents.

Blimey. Doubtless an academic question, but I don't suppose they're priced like that within striking distance of Stirling?
Yes, definitely. Job at the University?

    ;)

Lol, spot on :) Because I said 'academic', it's the majority employer, lucky guess or...?

Now is probably not the right time, but I would love to work there at some point. I had a job interview there once - longest I've ever travelled for one fwiw, and it's a bit of a journey to get from here in the Fens to there and back in a day - wasn't offered the job but what a stunning place, absolutely beautiful.

Like I say, one day - and if I can combine daydreams and think about buying a house too, even better :)

I live here already! When the time comes for me to move out, I don't know where I'll go because there's no way I could afford a place of my own round here (probably not even in High Wycombe...)

If you want a big house that you could maybe afford (and want to work in Edinburgh) you're looking at West Lothian or Fife.
4-bed detached with garage etc ~£200k, some cheaper.

Funny, I've just been looking at studio flats around that price (not in Scotland).
    Well, I say 'funny' :(

Not as near as that. About 40 miles south, in Annan, which is miles worse. But you know, 40 miles round here is like next door.

Cost of housing is the biggest rip-off and intergenerational wealth transfer going (other than pensions).
It's good if prices go down, not up!

I'm a taff now living in Edinburgh.  Could not believe the cost of property up here when we bought.

How much really?  For a 1 bed flat!

Edinburgh is a rich town. 25% of its kids go to private school. It's not going to be cheap. You can buy very cheap property in lots of places, just a bit tough getting a job in them.
