Nice house .. same is true in parts of England .. my Scots relatives keep saying I should move north of the border ..

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

    Shhh, don't tell everyone!

    :)

It's really the other way round, actually - the prices in the more affluent parts of England (and even a few in Scotland) have got ridiculous, to the point it's doing serious harm to the economy. A lot of the problems of the last thirty years are the result of the unjustified rise in the "value" of houses.

There's a reason Hawick is cheap.

T'aint what it used to be.

  • The property will sell for a LOT more than that. It's just a low 'guide price' to generate interest - the Scottish property market works differently. This is just saying 'offers over £195k'.

That's true, and the new (old) railway isn't going that far either.

The place to buy right now is Galashiels or Melrose.

Also true, but it probably won't go for more than 250K. Things aren't like they were ten years ago when the asking price was like the opening offer in an auction.

Around Durham is cheap too.  I saw a similar 6 bed Victorian manor for less than that. Wouldn't even buy you a flat around here.

The description is off. It says 4 bed house, then says it's a flat, only part of a house, in the small print. Still waaaay cheaper than anything you'd get down our way though.

Blimey. Doubtless an academic question, but I don't suppose they're priced like that within striking distance of Stirling?

Agree completely with @ICBM. High housing costs have screwed us over.
Prices aren't cheap up here at all. And they're WAY too expensive down south!
