Music you "get" but don't particularly like (Neil Young in this case)

I think with early Santana he was a good guitarist in a good rock band ( most of them then forming Journey) with rock type stuff like melody and energy. Then he decided to reinvent himself as a Latin jazz fusiony player. Whilst lots of people still liked that if you are a rock listener rather than a jazz listener it means there are only quite small portions of his career that will work for you ( and here by 'you' I include me), which is confusing as it has so much in common ( his distinctive guitar style, the rivvums)with the bigger bit that won't work. It's like looking at Alex Jones on the One Show. All the right bits in all the right places but as sexy as a sack of lentils.
