I thought I read wd40 etc is a BAD idea but I don't know from first hand experience. If it's because it's an oil, graphite may work. Or dry moly past/powder (I can send you Molly paste but don't have any powder, you can get it for airgun lubrication amongst other things)

I would use a small amount of standard automotive-type grease.

I'm a big fan of WD40 for lots of things (see signature :) )but I wouldn't use it for this, first because it could penetrate down inside the neck and might do things you don't want to any glues in there, and second because it will evaporate off fairly quickly and stop being useful.

If it's getting really tight before reaching the right relief, is it bottoming out on the thread? If so, you can put a small washer under it to give it a tiny bit more range.

Vaseline's not bad if you can't find any thick grease. Just a small dab on the thread. You don't really want anything getting into the truss rod channel for the reasons mentioned above.

Thank you gentlemen. Happened across some SnuffleBaby in the cupboard, principal ingredient is soft white paraffin that my chemist wife tells me is petroleum jelly AKA Vaseline! Will also add a small washer as you suggest, just in case.
