I have just witnessed the death of an iconic guitar

Manic Street Preachers playing The Holy Bible at Cardiff Castle... They came back to do a greatest hits set and at the end James smashed up his white Les Paul Custom. It's suffered two headstock breaks already, but I doubt it'll survive what he he did to it tonight. RIP.

It can't be "the" white LP he'd have to be insane to do that.

A few lads I know down there are going mad about it on Facebook.

Waste of a guitar, what a twat but at least it's his to do that to..

I watched him smash it into the drum riser several times but it still seemed to be in one piece. BBC Wales was broadcasting the gig, so you should be able to check it out on iPlayer soon,

He is undoubtedly a cool bastard, but there was no need for that!

It's not rock'n'roll to smash up gear anymore! Just a waste!

His property, he can do what he likes with it.

I don't like white Customs, black is 'proper'.

I would rather watch a famous guitarist smash up a famous guitar than any guitarist smash up a stage prop

He has about 6 of them. I'd be very surprised if it was "the one", but who knows?

Seeing as he describes "the" white custom as his most prized possession on earth, I very much doubt it was this one. As @stickyfiddle has said, he has quite a few I Believe.

    *Paul Stanley* *cough*

Nothing more rock and roll than planned destruction with a budget version of the normal guitar for budgetary and health and safety purposes...

I saw him smash Nicky's bass at the end, but didn't see any LPC being smashed..

This. It's Wire's bass that they take it in turns to destroy. White LP safely intact on stand behind JDB.

As guitar smashing goes that was a pretty poor show, they looked like old men on an allotment trying to break up some tough soil.

Phew, that's a relief, you can just skip to the end and watch the guitar destruction, thanks YouTube . I hope they don't get him a new bass and call it a day
    Nobody is guaranteed tomorrow.....

Saw them in Wolverhampton on Monday. Predictably set 1 was ace, set 2 a bit rubbish. James had an awesome guitar tone, not sure that comes across at all on the Cardiff footage.
