I'd have guessed 2011. 

Incidentally, I ended up in hospital a few years back with severe chest pains. My boss's boss, who is a really decent woman and knows I like guitars sent me a gift - the auction book for all Les Paul's guitars. It's a lovely tome full of wonderful pictures, and pretty rare as well.

He had a serious (near fatal) car accident in 1948. To save his right arm, and to enable him to play, he was flown to Los Angeles where doctors re-set his arm at an angle - just under 90 degrees.

He made an astonishing recovery but he did complain about his neck angle in 1952.
