i think if its used as a portable practice aid like what its aimed at its not a bad idea...
then practice the scale ..the good thing is you have to visualise the scale ..
. i think if they are used for what they are aimed at they are good practice tools when you dont have a guitar ..but they are not a musical instrument

I guess it works for practice when you are away and can't take a full size guitar.
I think in the early 1880's the great classical guitarist Fernando Sor drew a Guitar's fretboard on paper, so that he could practice when he was in the military.
