New Green Gretsch Guitar Day!
I've been on the hunt for a hollowbody for over a year now so on Saturday I decided to take the plunge and buy the Ibanez AS93 in Wunjo, I'd tried it earlier in the week and been impressed by how nice it was for the price (£275), but it was actually quite a big body, so I thought i'd try a few other guitars.
The AS97 was good, basically the same as the AS93 but smaller body and flamed maple top, same pickups though. Quality on both was excellent.
The Gretsch which was sat opposite me while trying out the Ibanez's just looked so inviting.
It ticked a number of boxes:
- Sounded good unplugged
- Had a bigsby ( I've only got hardtail guitars)
- Neck pickup is fat and warm
- Good neck profile, similar to my tele
- Looks cool as.
- On my list of dream guitars
So the budget went out the window, and I smacked my card on the counter and bought it, much to the relief of my girlfriend who sat there patiently listening to 4 people play at once. I also got a hardcase for a bit extra, why not go the whole hog, and they threw in strings, cleaner, a strap and strap-locks too.

It's amazing what a difference there is between the Annie and the 6120AM - in terms of feel, playability and sound (both acoustically and plugged in)
Even though the 6120 has TV Jones Powertrons as well it sounds deeper and less bright than the Annie. I suppose it'll be down to the different bracings and the woods used for construction - the 6120 being maple.
