If the year is right and it's all cherry, then most likely it is a Special

    Specials in '60-'61 were double-cuts.
Correct, but the OP doesn't say it's single cut.
He did at 7:46, you must've missed it :)

Yep, the Les Paul was first reissued in 68, not 67.
    Late 67 actually.
That's unlikely to be accurate given that the Les Paul was re-launched at the NAMM show in June 1968.

There is clearly a wealth of knowledge right here and not a knobhead in sight! I emailed my mate this morning with the preliminary feedback- ie get the serial number and I will follow up with a request for pics. However, I am going to be a complete bastard and keep you all in suspense as I off on my jolly bobs with Mrs rsv and the little Aprilias so won't be back for a bit. Will update the thread in a couple of weeks, thanks all

    You tease...
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

As already said serial numbers are not always an accurate identifier...

A big clue is if it says 'Made In USA' on the back of the head below the serial number, and/or has a 'volute' (raised ridge) on the back of the neck behind the nut. Both these indicate 1970 or later.

The date can usually most accurately be determined by the pot date codes if the pots are original - the guitar will have been made within a month or two after this usually.
