By proper I mean, not from an all in one kit. I will be putting it together using separate parts.

I won a body on ebay from booboo guitars. It's a two piece swamp ash strat style body.

Originally I was going to go for the wudtone black magic woman, on seeing the grain in person I will be going with a wudtone amber.

Neck will be from gsp basses and I have purchased a bladerunner v bridge from here. I'm unsure what to do regarding the rest of the hardware so any tips are welcome!
I'm looking for half decent hardware and pickups that won't break the bank!

    Proper nice that!

2TSB written all over it (I know, but I like a burst).

  • I'd balls it up horribly!

I think it's best for everyone's sake that I stick to a one colour finish!

Oh that's ok, I'm going to balls it up horribly on a lovely ash Tele/Esquire body. :)

  • Look for 2nd hand sorry , pre-loved pickups for bargains , and put all screws in by hand , don`t be tempted to use a powered screwdriver.

If a screw gets too tight when you are putting it in , back it out and drill the hole a bit more , if the head goes , you are in for some major headaches.

Good Luck , I enjoyed my first so much , I`m itching to do another one.

Black with black covers and knobs would look cool.

  • I was kindoing of going down the red tortoise shell train of thought but I'm colour blind and was u sure how it would look!

That second image is red isn't it? Haha!

Any ideas where to get custom water slide decals from?

I'd suggest more of a dark brownish tortoiseshell:

    image

Ivory/cream pickup covers and knobs there also, rather than white.

Rothko and Frost for good decals that are incredibly thin, well priced too.
@SimonRF is your man, I had some custom made Westone decals made there and they're beautiful.

    That's tasty as hell!

Mine will have chrome hardware so I'm not sure how well it will go?

Thank you! I agree you could have a point re the chrome hardware, but I'm really not sure - it might work just as well. If you could find a good pic of such a strat, it would help. I should say I do also like the black plate and controls/covers look as in the pic @Sarge posted - I reckon that certainly would work with chrome hardware. :)

This is gorgeous, but the pikey gold ruins it imo, chrome or nickel would nail the look.

Well I disagree, but tastes vary of course. :D That's not to say chrome or nickel wouldn't be excellent choices. :)

  • Well, the colour scheme is decided and its a kind of mix between all of the above (not sure how it will look).

I have gone for a 1 ply black pickguard with cream knobs and PU covers. Let me know your thoughts!

I've also took a punt on some of these :- http://www.axesrus.co.uk/Axesrus-Schaller-Style-Machine-Heads-Rear-Disc-L-p/jn-07cr.htm

Hopefully they are actually as good as the reviews say.

That's a great choice of finish as it really shows off the striking grain it's got!
I've got a GSPbasses neck on my thinline tele and it really is gorgeous, so I'm sure your guitar will come together brilliantly.

Should look pretty sharp I'd say, and just a bit distinctive also, which is good. I have used those locking tuners on a couple of builds, and the reviews are spot on, they are really excellent - I'll be surprised if you aren't pleased with them.

  • Just took a look at the website @simonRF and this build NEEDS one of them decals.

Question is, what do I call it?

The neck has is a classic large headstock design.

My name is shaun fretwell and I plan to give the guitar to my son Jude when he is old enough to start playing a full size guitar. He's currently 10 months old so it's a good way off yet!

So from that little bit of info, can anyone come up with a good name / brand / nickname t for this build that would look good on the headstock?
