So black followed by white grainfill. maybe not this one, don't think it would look good with the pancake construction

so the first template is made - I used a bit of MDF that previously was protecting the bench when I was doing finishing stuff - so its not pretty  but it is functional

    image

so I got the body cut out ad started the cavities

    image

it weighs 5lb 4oz in its current state - will need to lose a bit of that

It will probably be Tuesday. Wife was working today and I was looking after child/waiting for delivery. Tomorrow is the start of having no weekend due to Xmas. But I am using up holiday on Tuesday and plan to spend it all in the workshop.

Might try and get the neck blank glued up tomorrow to ensure Tuesday is as productive as possible

well i never got the neck blank glued up until this morning, but I should still make a lot of progress on the body side of things

think thing to do was mark up where I can add weight relief - i won;t be going fully chambered but more of a swiss cheese approach.   This has the least impact on tone because it loses very little structural integrity

    image

changed my mind slightly on some of the holes as I was drilling them - large forstner bit does the work

    image

and that gives us a bit of weight reduction
    image

so that's gone from 5lb 4oz to 4lb 8 1/2oz.  Just under on ounce lost for every hole drilled.  I am writing that down so I remember it ;)  It also shows its not the most efficient method of weight relief and why some Gibson's with "traditional weight relief" can still be heavy buggers

and I got the contour map templates made - used a lot of scraps and offcuts of MDF

got a bit done on the neck - planed square, headstock angle added and marked up.

i ended up with a 15degree headstock angle

I find it amazing someone can just make a guitar, even more so when it's a set neck with a carved top. Brilliant, really loving this thread.

You make it sound like water of a ducks back, if I was half as skilled I'd have sorted my bedroom door by now, looking good as usual man.

    Its certainly tempting.

    As are some stapletop p-90's

Neither are in the original plan. Either could happen

Give it a nice Walnut stain on top, get some gold hardware including P90's with gold polepieces.
