A B5 or slightly cheaper B50 is traditional, though I am really tempted by a B3 and a Towner bar, as they look pretty cool.

A Vibramate will mean you don't need to drill any holes, and same with the Towner

To permanently drill it or to use a Vibramate.

I would say Vibramate anyway because it gives a lower break angle at the bridge, so less tuning problems, connects the string ground automatically, and covers the old tailpiece holes neatly.

You want the V5-ST with a Bigsby B5. (Personally I think they look better than the standard V5 even if the SG doesn't have a batwing guard.)

It might stop the neck from diving.

I was thinking of putting a Vibrmamate and B7 on mine.  The trick is to remove the pin at the hinge, and flip it around.  It fits much better that way.

Also, to avoid drilling at the bridge, you can use a Towner Hinge plate adaptor.

However, having looked at the Towner B3 option, I may well go with that!  Looks lovely.

As for Bigsby's, I absolutly love the things.  They're the only trem I've bonded with. I have them on the majority of my guitars, heck, I might bolt one on my car, or on the front door! I don't get the Bigsby haters, but horses for courses.

That's pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. P90s. Black. B5.

At the risk of being burnt at the stake, if you think you want a Bigsby, you really want a Duesenberg trem.  http://www.rockinger.com/index.php?cat=WG073&product=3625C-3625A-3625G&sid3=d6f5814aea61839a48fde74fd3ac3fbd

(also at risk of being burnt at the stake) what ever you put on it, it won't stay in tune, Gibsons with trems don't

I hoped that, but they don't, not even the cheap, heavyweight solid brass ones.
They're too near the centre point between the two strap buttons to make a noticeable difference.

My current project, that is a no name b5 copy off ebay. God only knows if it'll hold tuning but its a very old cheap Epiphone SG I'm using to teach myself maintenance on so no one needs to panic about me butchering a guitar ;)

These were on sale recently for £399.  I got mine before the sale, still at a very respectful £499.  Nice 50's style fat neck, thin skin paint, P90's....Perfect!

I heard that before i did mine...to be honest tuning is just as good as it was before the bigsby...maybe this is one of the good gibsons, but ive never had tuning problems with it

The Bigsby on the 355 I had was rock solid. It outlasted the neck which warped resulting in it being sent back to gibson!

  • How about a Duesenberg Les Trem.

Looks quite cool on an SG IMO. And a lot cheaper than a legit bigsby.

Action is smoother too (I have a bigsby B5 on my tele).

    Here's mine:
