Random headaches.

What's Hot
Been getting random headaches lately.
Had one this morning.
I thought I'd bought decaf by mistake as a coffee seemed to fix it but it came back after an hour or so.

Other than going to the GP who will send me off for loads of tests does anyone have any idea of what to do or what it could be?
I did have a stressful day yesterday but I woke up with a banging headache at 3am.

I'm not prone to headaches but have indeed had a few lately, I suspect they are related to the cold/flu bug going around and just affect people in different ways.

I'm not a Doctor but I can take a look at it for you.

Stress is the obvious trigger but dehydration can also be a cause, especially if you work in a overheated or airconditioned office environment. Tea and coffee actually assist dehydration to some extent, so make sure you get plenty of water, juice etc

  • Most headaches can be traced to insufficient tripe in the diet.

    Blood pressure?
My blood pressure is normal- I exercise a lot.
Could just be a cold/flu type of thing.
    Or a tumour.

  • I was getting ramdom headaches a few years ago. Diagnosed as migraine, turned out to be something much MUCH worse, through thankfully all clear now. If it doesn't go away, don't get fobbed off by your GP.

The 15 tequila's last night wouldn't have anything to do with it, would they?

Bang on the head in the not-to distant past?

I used to get headaches if/when I banged my head playing rugby/football usually a couple of days after.

    No bang on the head.
I did have a multi-vitamin about an hour a ago and it is starting to go.

Not sure if they are linked- maybe a vitamin D issue- I know a deficiency can cause headaches.

I had undiagnosed migraines for 20 years

Had all sorts of MRI scans, telling me I might have a tumour, nasal sprays and sinus tablets for decades.

then a new doctor said have you tried triptans?

I had been losing 5 hours some days, and noticed that I was having trouble understanding things at work when I had one of my "sinus headaches", it had all escalated, mostly down to drinking lots of orange juice

Anyway, the medicine fixes it in 30 minutes. Symptoms for me are: fell like someone is pushing my eyebrows down. Sinuses blocked, sometimes a bit of white noise on my left, and the left side if my face feels wet. IQ drops 40-50 points, Headache a bit like a hangover. I feel like "..and I'm back in the room, with full IQ again" after the medicine, Zolmotriptan.

Triggers are: Tyrazine, worst sources:   coffee, chocolate, citrus fruits. It's when your blood vessels in your brain dilate too much
Also for me: relaxation after stress (or even a nice sauna can trigger it sometimes)

You can buy the medicine I use, but a warning: if you take it with some antidepressants, including St john's wort, it can kill you or put you into hospital

I don't take antidepressants but also I don't have any congestion/sinus trouble so not sure it will help.

I'm feeling better by the second though.

Not saying it's migraine for you, just want more people to know how often it goes undiagnosed

Symptoms differ for everyone, for me the "wet face", blocked sinuses, brain-ache, feeling thick and more sensitive to normal noises are a giveaway

Others get flashing lights an allsorts

Anyway, if pain killers don't work, try triptan medicine from boots.

After that, follow my code: "If you can't explain it, see a professional"

See a doctor. My brother in law didn't bother for years until they got too bad. He got a brain tumour - apparently they're on the increase and the medical profession don't know why. Caught early you can be cured. It's worth a check up.
