  • Just to confuse matters, recently there were some ES-335s made with P-90 pickups.

  • James Bay has been playing a Luther Dickinson 335, which is a 335 with dogear P90s. The 330L is full hollow - exactly as a normal 330 with the neck moved.

Hollow - which makes sense as it wouldn't really be a 330 derivative if it wasn't a hollow body.
That's true, but Gibson aren't always logical with naming!

I thought so too. That's why I assumed James Bay's guitar was one, but it could have been either really...

@ICBM here is the skinny on James Bay: http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/james-bay-talks-hollowbodies-solos-and-chaos-and-the-calm-620031

    All ES-330 / ES-330L are fully hollow.

I want Epiphone to do a reissue of the Century he plays!

Cool, thanks! It makes sense that it would be a 330L, since he says he prefers all-hollow guitars.

It amazes me that they haven't yet - it should be an instant hit. He's very associated with it, easily enough for a signature model. It wouldn't be a difficult or expensive guitar to make either.

I had a non-cutaway '57 ES-125T a long time ago - essentially the same guitar - which I never really liked much, but that was then and I like a lot of different stuff now...

Thank you for the knowledge on the Epi hollow body range guys. It's been a fun read :)

I can definitely afford a Chinese casino before summer time but I'll see how I'm feeling come the time... Perhaps I'll find a used Elitist again locally although that one in Belfast looks great.

Careful with the Korean Peerless ones.

My '97 Casino has a super skinny nut (approx 40mm). I don't mind it as the neck is a nice medium-chunkly profile which I like a lot but many players would find the narrow string spacing a deal breaker. They did widen the nut on later models but I'm not sure when the change took place.

I also think that the pickups on the new Chinese ones are a lot better than the horrible, overwound muddy monstrosities that they used on many of the Korean models.

Hello @lonestar , I was quoted earlier, so just to add my twopennyworth, mine is a 'Made in Korea'. Its great, I bought it second hand here in France for 325€, ie £240, and I play it constantly - it doesnt like high stage volume, but cafe vol/open mic or inhouse its great.... the p90s are clean & clear but also drive well, very articulate. Its got a nice balance, very comfy C-neck , very well finished ---absolutely delighted with it - sounds better (more woody & acoustic0 than any semis I've had (Gibby 339, Hagstrom Viking)

Actually Gibson have made 335s with P90s on and off for a while. The one I've got is the same model as this and its a superb guitar...

  • I picked up a Chinese '09 recently, sounds lovely acoustically but not so great plugged in.

Am going to put a new loom in it with CTS custom pots and quite possibly some kent armstrong Casino p90's which aren't wound so hot.

  • I love Casinos - my favourite guitars.  The Chinese ones have a very flat-backed neck profile which I dislike.  But they are good guitars.  The '97 Korean one I had a while back had a much nicer neck profile.  The friend I sold it to is selling it - it's got Mojo P90s and a new loom with Bourns pots - so let me know if you're interested.

I recently got one of the Revolution Casinos (John Lennon replica) and it is absolutely stunning.  I love everything about it.  I have no idea which factory built it - it might have been Gibson Custom Shop, or maybe it's an Japanese Elitist which has been shipped back to the US for the nitro finish, or somewhere else?  It doesn't bother me where it was made, but it would be handy to know.  If it's just a nitro-finished Elitist with the Lennon mods, then I'd say get an Elitist.

I think something has gone wrong in this thread....

I'm now looking at Gibson ES 330's in satin red. How the HELL did that happen????

But but but!!! I went from thinking "I'll go to Dawson's in Belfast with £470 and try one out" to "now, if I use that £470 as a deposit against the 330 how much will the payments be?"

    Yikes!

Elitist for sale there locally but I'd be asking about the tuner that looks askew.

I think that just might be my perfect Gibson hollowbody...
