U2 - Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of and Kite.

Pink Floyd - a lot of The Final Cut, especially The Gunner's Dream and the title track.

Quite a bit of Heather Nova, especially Storm, the whole album.

A lot of ABBA. SOS, Knowing Me Knowing You, Chiquitita, Super Trouper, The Winner Takes It All. (And more.)

Vera Lynn - We'll Meet Again.

yeah, quite a few U2 and Abba songs for me too

  • Tangerine by Zeppelin, and Hurt by NIN.
They're the only songs that can manifest in me all the physical sensations of heartbreak, melancholy and regret.  :/

I can't even listen to either of these anymore, honestly.  Ordinarily I do not like cover versions but these two are incredible.
I know what you mean, especially Fields of Gold

This. Probably because I first heard it about a year after my mum died. It's utterly raw.

That's quite viscera;, intense, raw, I love it.

    Thanks for sharing <)

The whole album is good. Very unfiltered bloke-dealing-with-grief; it gets me in a way that none of the normal songs-about-feeling stuff does. All the guilt and frustration and regret, and some brilliant tunes too.

Definitely Tangerine & Hurt, but for me it has to be the Johnny Cash cover version.
Possibly influenced by the back story & accompanying video.

This, which I was reminded of recently for reasons which will become obvious at the end.

This is the greatest song ever written about it in my opinion. I find it almost unbelievable that it isn't better known.

"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski

"Only two things are infinite - the universe, and human stupidity. And I'm not sure about the universe." - Albert Einstein

Whoa, that's pretty much me gone too, I have some personal memories of New York and a lot of them include WTC, that really hit home. Thank you for that (I mean that too, it's good to be reminded sometimes, and it's good to ache/hurt/cry too), Carpe Diem.

The yard is nothing but a fence, the sun just hurts my eyes...

Not mentioned so far, but this track meant a lot to me at a certain significant breakup period in my life.
"More Fool Me' from Genesis 'Selling England by the Pound'.  Very apt album title for the times we currently live in...

Unusual really as I don't much like Phil Collins.

Posted this earlier on the "What are you listening to? " thread but it needs to be in here too:

These ones also really bend me out of shape for a range of reasons:

Also, me and Mrs F had the good fortune and privilege to attend Verona Arena in August this year for a one-off event ... Carmena Burana by Carl Orff conducted by Placido Domingo. 20,000 people, in a 2,000 year old, open-top arena on a hot Summer night listening to a stirring, gut-clenching, powerdriven masterpiece ... it was incredible. We both cried

Sorry chaps, I can't abide either of them.

  • Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm

The song topic of child abuse is really raw. How your child might reflect on the way you treated them and that not only didn’t provide but as the supposed protector you actually were the inflictor. I love my kids so much to think that others go through this. It really gets me.

… and the song’s arrangement is just amazing
