FINISHED! Strat parts build, the madness continues.....

After completing the Guitarbuild giveaway Tele body, I decided a Strat was in order, so ordered a Vintage correct body from Guitarbuild, along with an Allparts all Maple 7 1/4 radius neck and Parchment scratchplate, heres the first marriage of current parts.......

Other parts enroute or awaiting fettling are 

CTS pots

Oak Grigsby 5 way switch

Wilkinson Trem

Vintage style slotted tuners

Bare Knuckle Sultans pickups

Body will be off white cellulose, neck will be tru oil, except the headstock face whick will be same colour as the body, cos I like a painted headstock......

Current state of play is, all holes for hardware are drilled and verything had been prefitted, next...paint!

I must say it'll be a shame to hide that lovely grain though.

I agree about the grain, but off white with a parchment scratchplate is what I planned.....however I will be using Halford cellulose in the form of rattlecans, cheap, not much paint to thinners ratio, but I'm hoping to turn that to my advantage as I want the paint to be as thin as possible but also to soak into the grain, not transparent, but still able to see the grain as with my Guitarbuild Tele and my GSP LP jr......

Ahh but I'm juggling 3 projects at once, a Cimar strat refin, a Westone bass refin for a "customer" and the Booboo build...
I've just sprayed my first coat of aged vintage white on the Cimar


can you only handle one at a time Paul?

That looks like a nice chunk of body wood. Much prefer to see it with the grain still visible, how's it looking after coat no1?

The body and neck are both ready for finish, The 6 trem screw holes were there about 2mm deep, everything else I had to drill and dry fit, prior to painting......

Regarding the first coat of paint it's gone much getter than I hoped, although there are two minor runs, which will hopefully sand out....it is whiter than the crappy photos show, gentle rub over tomorrow with 1200 grit and a light dusting of white should see it done, then a just enough lacquer to seal any still exposed grain, I'm one chuffed bunny!

Why'd do get the Allparts neck? Guitarbuild also?  They do vary a bit,  That is a nice one.

This is my second Allparts neck, found the first to very good so got another........

By 7:30 this morning I had rubbed out a small run from the back of the body and looking dapper as you like  in just a dressing gown on the deck, the first coat of lacquer is on, if I can reign in my impatience and continue with very light lacquer coats, the body should be finished by this evening, then propped near a radiator to hurry the cure.......the white headstock is a minor disaster with an epic run, so that will need a bit longer to get to the dry enough to sand stage.......cheap paint, thin and paintless, an advantage on the body, where it could leave minimal paint, and soak into the grain, a disaster on the headstock, every event is an opportunity!.....

Yes my biggest fault is rushing things…..anyroadup in the interest of slowing down the third coat of lacquer is on and flashing off in th'garden, as in th'ouse it makes the Bastard (dog) sneeze………

I think later today a very gentle wet n soapy session (then the guitar body) and a final dusting of lacquer will see it done, then LEAVE THE BLOODY THING ALONE! for a week……Yea, like that's going to happen….
