Reverend re-spray project - finished

So the story to date.... I've got a couple of Reverend guitars which I love, but my head was turned by the Reverend Tricky Gomez in metallic Alpine Green. I first thought I might sell my Reverends so I could splash out on the Rev TG, but I couldn't bring myself to part with them. I then had the idea of re-spraying one of my Revs in alpine green and chucking a tremelo arm on it...

Steve Robinson offered to make up a custom Alpine Green nitro, so I went down to Merchant City Music in Glasgow and took some pictures of the Tricky Gomez, sent them off, and voila the paint has arrived... So I just need to decide which Rev I'm going to re-finish (picture below). The Club King would probably be easier (bolt on neck), but I'm thinking of doing the Manta Ray, because I know I will never sell this guitar, whereas the Club King may eventually go, also it's obviously a lot closer in style to a Tricky Gomez. Wish me luck - I've never re-sprayed a set neck guitar with binding!!

The first thing I thought looking at it was one on the right would look stunning in Green Metallic.

I've decided it's definitely going to be the Manta Ray I'm going to refinish. I now can't decide whether to just refinish the top or the whole guitar. Might do just the top first and see how it looks.

There's a green Tricky 290 on Gumtree at the mo', seems a fair price too.

a green-black burst would get you into burns territory.

Depending how much I like the green, I could respray them both!

So I've now completed the colour and satin clear coats and I'm please with the results. The picture below is perhaps showing the finish a bit blue'er than it is - it is definitely a metallic green. Not sure how to do the final sanding and buffing as I'm going for a satin finish - @steverobinson recommends sanding to 1000 grit then spraying with a final clear coat, however I don't think I've got enough clear coat left for this so I don't think I could spray it wet enough for it to level. Maybe sand to say 1500 grit then give it a gentle buff? Thoughts?

If in doubt, don't try to level and buff yet.   adding an extra can of clear to the cost is a lot cheaper than having to redo the whole lot

Colour looks nice, but I am confused by the bridge posts still being there ;)

Here's the picture that @ewal asked me to match and it looks close :)

Yes as @WezV says, get plenty of clear on, you don't want to risk a sandthrough.

Also, if you have any green left, dust on a final coat before the clear and the metallic effect will be enhanced.

The colour is definitely a great match. Thanks @steverobinson!

ETA: Also need to decide whether I can stomach the cost of Bigsby :-O

So finished the re-finish this evening and I'm dead chuffed with the results. For the moment I've put an Alchemist P90 pickup in to the neck position - I'll see how it goes - but might end up going back to the original humbucker. I fancied a Bigsby, but the Les Trem was much more affordable, and I think it fits with the Reverend modern retro type appeal. As previously mentioned, @steverobinson nailed the Alpine Metallic Green colour perfectly. Cheers!
