What was your first pedal, after doing your research, was the one you really wanted to buy?

For me it was the BBE Sonic Stomp.

I have it still :)

I believe it was a Proco Rat that I later had modded to include two DIP switches for the Reutz mod and the Turbo Rat mode.

Used it for a few years but never adored it. Of course the irony is now that I'm thinking a Rat might be the pedal that I'm looking for.

J Rockett Archer. I hadn't really taken any notice of the whole Klon thing until Mick & Dan did their funny video comparing the Archer to a real Klon. When I heard the SG Junior through the Archer into a Victory V40 I had to get one. The Klon and Archer are almost indistinguishable in that video.

    MXR phase 90.
Exactly the phase sound I was thinking of, and wanted.

Also it's what Dave Murray used in the early years........

I wanted to sound like David gilmour. So I got a bad monkey to pair with my acoustic guitar. Sounded pretty naff. Hahahhaha.

I did lots of research but still had no clue.

I'd had some noisy Coloursound pedals but my first serious quality pedal was the original script logo MXR Dist+ then a Dyna Comp fairly soon after.
I liked the Dist+ so much I then got the Distortion 2 with the resonance control. I wouldn't mind another one of those.

Probably the VG-88. It sounded like a very open unit with a lot of potential.

    And it was!

Boss cs-3 when I was 16, had my dad drive me 20 miles to go fetch it. It did what I wanted which was to add more smooth sustain but I would have been better off with a good overdrive.

A Klone. In the days when it was possible to buy new from Chandlers. Still have it.

I spent weeks trying to find a chorus pedal I really enjoyed, and eventually landed on the Mr Black doublechorus. Absolutely love it. I've also got the Dwarfcraft Twin Stags double trem, so I'm tempted to get the Visual Sound dual delay just to keep the doubles going!

Same here. Wish I still had it.

A battered old script-logo one with 'Studio Instrument Hire' and a phone number badly engraved into the back of it, bought in late 1985 or early '86. It sounded brilliant but I sold it when I moved into multi-FX in the late 80s...

Source Audio programmable eq. I did all sorts of research into eq pedals before I bought it, narrowed it down to this one and an Empress before pulling the trigger.
