if this is a general representation of society why is the human population so high?

Storytelling is pretty well-established part of our culture, and the story is usually driven by a specific agenda.

What gets my goat (and, I guess, @Drew_fx's) is when people try to pass it off as something that really happened. 

But read the start of the Da Vinci Code, and you realize that it's a common thing in fiction to try to encourage the reader to think that it's real.

This type of story is harmless enough. The really harmful crap on Facebook these days is usually about immigrants - one concerning the fact that "apparently" they're all on £26 per day and spend it all on booze, and another concerning the absolute outrage that any immigrant should try to make some money selling bikes which were going to be chucked on a tip.

There is one that did the rounds a while back about the car park at Bristol Zoo and some bloke taking payment for years and years and then disappearing and no-one knowing who he was - basically he wasn't employed to patrol the car park, he just took money for years unchallenged.

Turns out to be completely untrue.


What really gets my goat are the really obviously untrue ones that do the rounds because people cannot be bothered to check their facts on Snopes etc before they share utter tripe.
