Has anyone tried doing crumpets in a microwave?

What's Hot
NiteflyNitefly Frets: 4952
Given some of the weird and wonderful gastronomic efforts I've seen on here, I figured somebody must have tried it.

I ask because my toaster doesn't seem to be up to the job - the weight of 2 crumpets is too much for the springs.

I'd imagine they'd go soggy. I'd sooner put them in an oven or grill them.

    Or buy a decent toaster.

They are Pikelets in our house.....they get hot and the high fat spread melts nicely, but soggy though........grill 'em!

No, but I've done slappers in a car before.

My kids made cakes in a mug in the microwave last night (YouTube, where else).

They looked and smelt bloody horrible.

I normally have a pack in the freezer. 40 seconds from frozen in the microwave gives you a hot but soggy crumpet, then in the toaster to crisp them up.

If you dont have a toaster, just eat them raw.

MrsTheWeary has occasionally done an instant steamed pudding thing in the microwave which is surprisingly good eaten hot. Goes weird when left to go cold though, not really like a proper steamed pudding.

Nothing done in a microwave will ever taste anything other than rubbery and soggy. Stick em under the grill...

My younger brother used to do them in the microwave - with cheese on top. F*cking horrible, rubbery and inedible. Avoid. (Microwaved crumpets, that is, not my younger brother).

There's not much that can be cooked in a microwave and come out edible. Microwaved bread products are particularly nasty.

    Proper toaster or grill.

Hmm - not exactly a resounding chorus of approval then.

I haven't the heart to re-open toastergate, so it looks like the grill is the way forward.

Thanks as always for your help.
