Prime Minister Hunt will keep us in the E.U.

What's Hot

Mark my words... This will happen;
Hunt has just dangled a second referendum carrot - for the "terms of our withdrawal". He will become the next PM and time his call for a snap election when Labour are in maximum meltdown mode. The Tories will romp home with a landslide as they are the last chance for avoiding brexit and a significant number of leave voters will by then have changed their minds - it only needs a few percent.

Behind the scenes, the EU will collaborate with him and make the withdrawal terms onerous, thus ensuring rejection by the electorate who, by then (if not already) will be gagging to stay after the economy is hurting their pockets.

We're not leaving the EU. I'll put money on it.

I have to agree at least that I think we won't leave the EU.

As for the rest of it, that's certainly plausible but I don't follow politics enough to be sure.

What I am sure if is that there are already lots of deals being done behind closed doors and a lot of people will already know what is going to happen.

I've never had the slightest interest in politics up to this point but I do have to say I'm very interested in seeing how this pans out.

Boris needs to come out and admit he has told a lot of lies, the biggest one being that stupid red bus with £350 million for the NHS, I bet a lot of people fell for that. He needs to take this on the chin, kiss good bye to his career for the good of his own country. So others can say "he lied to us, he lied to you" and have some kind of semi legitimate reason to not invoke article 50.

I can picture him going "WTF have I done?" While the news report the pound dropping, the stock market falling, pension falling, we lose our AAA rating from everyone and all the while seeing MPs resigning left right and centre.

The problem is i think he is too much of a coward to do so and will hide and hide until there is some form of solution made by others and slowly clean up his mess.

I think Emp might be right. It will be painful to have to re-assess Hunt.

The only bit I don't agree with is about an Election just when Labour are weakest. I think Labour will also back the Hunt Remain plan - regardless of who the Labour Leader is.

In fact.....what has just happened is so terrifying (to our Politicians) that I would not even rule out a wartime style coalition of Labour/Tory/Libdem for 1 term only.
Nigel Farage would self combust with anger.
His obituary would not be kind.

Is this bit actually possible? As I understand it, the current rule is that elections happen a fixed period after the last election so the government can't just decide to have one whenever they feel like it.

I think parliament can raise a motion of no confidence in the govt but it needs a fairly high percentage (75 possibly) of MPs to vote for it

Hunts a cunt and stands no chance of being PM - would you ever believe a thing he said about the NHS? Even Corbyn could kill him at PMQs if he was PM. He's a stalking horse for weak May. She never says anything without careful planning so he's put on a helmet and stuck his head over the trench to take one for the team. He's softening us up ... Dave was at the EU .. just look at the threats this afternoon from no free trade deal, to money for banks and company's to relocate to the EU .. Dave's initiated FUD 2 the campaign to remain with his mates in the EU. Coming to a TV and computer/smart phone screen near you.

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

Except we will have triggered Article 50 to get to that point - which as I understand it - doesn't allow you to withdraw from the process. Unless all remaining member states agree to an extension - at two years we're out - whether we're happy with the deal, or not.

I agree, this is highly likely to be the end result. We'll either be cajoled with terror into having another referendum or if we do end up "Out", the negotiations will likely result in something not too dissimilar than pre June 23rd, a bit like a rebranding. Carry on Folks, nowt new here.

You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave..

But don't for one minute dare say that the EU are a bunch of bullying controlling bastards. The benevolent EU have form on this in Austria and Greece, so will no doubt do the same again. And expect us to be thankful.

    Chamberlin would have voted remain.

The saddest thing is the so-called socialists at work decrying democracy and the working people. Socialism is for snobs these days as they side with big banks, big business, and big government.

Who to be fair keep a lot of people in employment so that boomer brexiters' pensions can be paid.

Until we reach Paul Mason's post-capitalist utopia where we don't need them any more as we've gone back to bartering and grunting in caves while looking at cat pictures on the Interweb, we need these nasty corporations.

OK, so I'll concede Hunt may not be PM, but whoever is will likely covet the same plan.  From a purely selfish perspective, it's a very attractive proposition - premiership of a landslide government, saviour of the country etc.  Compare that with the alternative of a PM having to steer the country through a real exit...    end of career, universal unpopularity etc.

Course we do. I am just amazed as the shift in the socialists I know. Maybe because they are not actually working class though. They talk the talk but when you live in central London or Sevenoaks, I guess it has a different meaning.
