Jolly good show and all that. Just the sort of chap we need to deal with Johnny Foreigner don't you know.. Oh I can hear the bells peeling at St Pauls as we celebrate Empire Day. "Land of Dope and Tory..."

Clarkson has quite quickly spotted that the country is now run by May and Hammond. I think he's getting a bit worried...

Oh wait it's actually true. Christ. That first meeting with Obama will be interesting after his Kenyan comments a few months ago.

It's a brilliant move. It puts a huge amount of responsibility on him, makes his followers think he's got a big reward and neutralises him as a threat to her leadership all at the same time. He's well-known and popular abroad, and if it all goes wrong with the EU negotiations, guess who gets the blame…

And he gets to feel very uncomfortable talking to Obama.

    Win.

You may be onto something but this 'win' can only be achieved by spectacular catastrophe which he will succeed with no doubt.

Not sure. He actually did OK as mayor of London.

And David Davis as "Brexit" (I really hope they can come up with a decent name for that) Secretary. High-profile Leavers where they have to put their jobs where their mouths were.

And who are usually out of the country for a significant part of the time :).

Still no word on Gove… he's either staying where he is or she's saving something creatively humiliating for him.

I think you're right. But I'm still gobsmacked. If you'd have given me 50/1 odds I'm not sure I'd have placed a bet... :o

Gove takes Boris out of the running for PM to pave the way for May. May needs to give Boris a position in the cabinet, where he can rehabilitate himself to some degree, allow May to ride out the storm of the next year or so, and then challenge for leadership shortly after, the next election, where he will give Gove a senior position in the cabinet.

Don't really buy it either, but it would be interesting.

It's a brilliant move, not least as a small private bet took place between friends last month on him ending up as Foreign Secretary and I am now £40 up shortly before a weekend of cricket and drinking. £40 pays for a lot of Lambrini.
