I wouldn't sell to a shop outright, but if you can get a decent commission rate (10-15%) for a shop to sell on your behalf, then what you'd actually receive would be at least equal to private sale prices, in my experience.

Another way to look at it is that the sale price less fees is what the seller is prepared to let it go for, ie how much (or how little) they're prepared to end up with in their pocket. I'm sure many fretboarders have done off-ebay deals where there's been no bids on an item, so you offer 10-15% less for an off-ebay deal, and often it's accepted. So I've heard anyway...

I consider the extra I pay for an ebay sale to be a premium for having at least some peace of mind that I'd have a decent chance of getting my money back, should the goods turn out to be in some way defective or not as advertised.

That said, I'd consider letting a shop with a decent reputation sell some of the higher end stuff on commission. Even with their cut, you end up with almost what you'd get from a private sale but don't have to deal with advertising, "tyre kickers" etc. That's particularly relevant here where I imagine selling this stuff is a painful process for the owner.

I used to drive just by Frizington (Rowrah) to work every day and my brother still lives in Workington. Given what happened to the Larrivee I gave him (it involves an ill-advised airing cupboard storage location and subsequent banana-shaped neck) I hope he doesn't want the Santa Cruz! Seriously though, good luck selling these on and I hope you can raise a few bob in the sad circumstances.

I haven't checked the reworked prices, so this is a general comment:
some stuff I sell is too unusual to just put on ebay - it never shifts, so after a few months, I put some stuff into commission sales in good shops. tbh, I still get the same I was asking for, so for this volume of stuff, I would consider putting a few guitars in each of the best shops:
Sounds great, Ivor Mairants, Coda, etc. it will be a ball ache to sell that many, and I'd put the Pros onto it, and get those instruments out of the house for her
