    Thanks @monquixote.

I should get enough time over the next couple of weeks to finish it before the gassing festy, so you might get to test drive it.

    Gorgeous!
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

I thought green when I saw the colour samples. I was wrong. The highlight and contrast of the blue look really good.

Great job, the flame really zings. Not wanting to piss on your chips Tony but if it were mine, I'd definitely do a blueburst, going to black at the edges to cover that defect. It really sticks out against the quality of the rest of the top.  :/

I think green would have looked nice too - but the blue is pretty tasty.

    Well then ...

I took another look at it this morning, holding the guitar to catch the light, and the oil finish had left a bit of a "streaky" finish.  Tried buffing it out, but no chance.

So I buffed it out with sandpaper instead.  Back to 240 grit, then working through to 1200.

Nice and smooth, but that took some of the colour out too, so a few thin coats to re-stain it, and it's ready for the oil finish again.

This time the oil coats will be thinner and more carefully applied ...

I do know what you mean @boogieman, and I thought long & hard about how to finish it.  Consider doing some sort of burst on it for exactly the reason you suggest, but I just don't like bursts.

    :-/

So, I decided to do the washed denim finish again (despite just having done one in that finish) and not to try to hide the defect.  Hopefully it's give it more of a warts'n'all dirty / imperfect look rather than a sanitised perfect look.

I think that will look OK on a dirty/washed denim colour, but time will tell.

    @Sporky:  Green - no.
    ;)

Your guitar Tony, do what you will with It. It's guaranteed to come out 100% better than anything I could manage.  :)

I've just oiled the back, but I put a bit of yellow stain in with the oil to see if that would lighten the mahogany a bit.

Of course, I'll never know how it would have looked without the added stain, but I'm quite happy with the way it's turned out, and I'll always tell myself that the extra golden hue is because of my expertly mixed stain.

    :D

    And here we go ...

Rubbed down again, re-stained, re-oiled and a quick buff.

Wired up, but not strung up (as the nut I thought I'd put in my build box, turned out not to be actually there when I went to get it out, bah) so the pickups aren't screwed into place yet.

I love the almost geometric variation in flame direction - looks like a piece of dramatic modern art
