I've got water trapped in my ear

What's Hot

Had a shower about half an hour ago and my ear is starting to ache a little. I put a bit rolled up kitchen towel just inside hoping it would soak it up but that didn't work.

Any tips?

Cotton bud, ear pointed downward.  Wiggle cotton bud around a bit to let the water run down.

wax has swelled up with the water....all the medical advice is to not put anything smaller than your elbow into your ear....you can cause more damage with a cotton bud so just give it time and use some drops to soften it.

I bought some ear drops recently that came with a rubber syringe type thing (looks like a mini turkey baster) for 'gently' blasting out softened wax. Something that could do that could help.

Alternatively shake your head furiously to the affected side like a demented chicken trying to peck at seeds with its ear....

unless you are very careful, cotton buds cause harm
go to a pharmacy, and ask them for something that shifts excess wax

    otherwise it's imflamed, GP  tomorrow

Leave it be.  It should sort itself out by the following day or so.

I've had lots of ear related problems over the last 10 years or so and a trip to the GP is most likely to result in having antibiotics prescribed which don't really do much (even if you have an infection, which you don't)

Don't put cotton buds in your ear.

    Otex ear drops....

And as others have said - don't poke about with cotton buds or anything else.

I had the same very recently. Tried Otex for a few days without any improvement. Then tried olive oil for couple of days and cured it. Use warm olive oil and put a couple of ml in your ear three or four times a day. After two or three days irrigate your ear or get GP nurse to do it for you.

Something that works for me is to use Olive oil or Otex drops then after a while massage, the soft bit of your ear nearest front. You may find that that it feels like it's "almost" popping or that it pops and then goes back to blocked. Do it regularly and it will stay popped, might be a day or two though. I have waxy ears and learnt to my frustration over the years that no matter how tempted you are, don't use the ear buds, it's solid advice above. And go to the docs if it's actually hurting.

If this was true then the thousands and thousands of people that use earplugs and IEM's would be able to get compensation for hearing loss.
