Vox AC30 for £150 in 1987-ish, when most folks were more interested in rack gear. I didn't buy it because it was "only" 30 watts and wouldn't be loud enough for me. *Facepalm*
The silverface Bandmaster Reverb that was located in Birmingham and sold for £250 like the week before I had the moneyballs to buy it.
Missing a great guitar is another thing. If you think about all the guitars you have picked up (because they interest you) that have been just OK, nice but no more, they probably represent 99 out of 100 guitars. The one that makes you nervous (because your subconscious mind knows that this is not the right moment to buy and yet this is The One) is probably The One.
If you picked up 100 guitars over a period of time and didn't buy The One even though you knew it was The One, there was probably no point in pickup up the others. This explains why Bono has still not found what he is looking for.
He played a great guitar in a shop and then drove home to log onto the Fretboard. He then posted: I just played a Fender Strat with an incredible neck. I can't stop thinking about it. Where can I find a guitar like that??

I had been using the Les Paul for some recordings along with the others, and when I listen to them now I can't really tell what guitar I used on what… except for one, which is blindingly obvious. I still think about the stupidity of missing that opportunity.
It's nothing to do with the investment - but I couldn't afford to buy the same guitar now even if I did sell all my other guitars, it's gone up proportionately far more. The sad thing is that if I had bought it, I may still not own it now because we had to remortgage a few years ago to build an extension on the house, and I may well have sold it then… it would probably have covered the shortfall.

The other one was a Sonic Blue ibanez Strat copy, possibly a Roadstar or Blazer. It was in the music shop above HMV in Bedford for £125 and despite me not getting on with Strats, I loved that one. When I turned up with the money it had gone. I've not seen one since.
I said maybe.....
Same shop had an N4 for silly money. Once again, I couldn't recall if that was the good one. The trip home confirmed that it was but I returned and it was sold.
I don't feel too bad though as they were probably both nicked!

the one I always remember was an old Dean ML. I saw it in a cash converters about 1998. It had a really lurid 3 colour sunburst (as in 3 totally clashing colours) and a scalloped maple fretboard. All looked to be done well and original, if in totally bad taste
Possibly the ugliest thing I have ever seen and I have been unable to accurately describe it to anyone since. I wish I had bought it to prove it existed
