Nocaster at best no 335's - No Strat's - No decent LP's - some good jazz boxes or acoustics
Its a lovely guitar - and cost 'sensible' money. I'd had a good year where I was working at the time and got decent year end bonus, which paid for it outright. It was sourced through a trade connection - I paid £3500 for it.
It has the original (ill-fitting) case. All the pots/wiring are original.
335s (and variants) are like Juniors - relative vintage bargains, compared to Fenders of the same era.
Fenders were all over the place with their serial Nos in the late 70's - it's not uncommon to see 80/81's advertised as 78's and as you say they are generally overpriced.
Something Japanese would be better value and probably a better guitar.
Getting the thread back on track a bit, here's a nice '59 TV Special that doesn't appear to have suffered the heel crack....(yet). Seller is a well respected luthier too so it's genuine.

And on balance, here's one that's suffered the break and had, what looks like a pretty messy repair...

I've seen a lot of really rather beautiful guitars today.
