Some time warp stuff there. Those tape machines would have cost a fortune in the 80's.

Something a bit sad about this. Or perhaps I'm just sad that I can't afford any of this awesome memorabilia.

Yeah, there must be over a million dollars worth of gear in that studio.

That's probably my dream guitar. Gibson sg style neck and an onboard harmonic energizer.
I love that tone. Currently $7500.

The romantic in me would like to think it could be preserved for posterity. But it'll all end up as some talking point in some chaps house.
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

My first experience of Zappa was when Channel 4 showed an 80s  concert of his and he was playing that guitar. I thought it was incredibly cool.

I saw him in Dortmund in '84, that guitar really sounded awesome at high volume, especially on "Dog food".

Yes. This will be the two unproductive siblings selling everything  so they can pay off the cast debts incurred by Gail taking former Zappa players to court and trying to stop them playing.

I've just found out that his moustache is trademarked. Anyone caught wearing one could face costly legal proceedings!!!

I read that too, think it's true.

Seems he was a fan of partscasters, a bit surprising when I'm sure he would have been able to get the fender custom shop to knock up anything he wanted.

My boss told me "dress for the job you want, not the job you have"... now I'm sat in a disciplinary meeting dressed as Batman.

Got introduced to Zappa by my guitar teacher when I was 11!!

Loved him ever since, some people don't get it, but the guy was a genius.

It is so sad to see all of this gear on an auction site...

Some members of the Zappa family need to wake up!

    Not surprising at all.

Frank wasn't interested in badges or logos - he was interested in persuing sound. A guitar was a tool to him and often those tools needed modifying to give him what he wanted.

Also back in the early 80s when the butterscotch Strat was built, the "Fender Custom Shop" didn't even exist. If you wanted a Fender, you got a production model... no matter who you were.

It wasn't just Fenders - his famous SG (not the Roxy one) with the crazy wiring was hand made for him by a Luthier, rather than buy a Gibson.

He also wasn't precious about 'vintage' guitars or guitars that he'd owned for a long time. If it didn't fulfil the purpose for which he needed it for *at that moment* it would either get it modified (and he wasn't afraid of chiselling or drilling holes) or it would be ditched in favour of something else.

TBH, he had a very different attitude towards guitar equipment than most 'modern' guitarists. He was always searching for something 'new' and wasn't hung up on trying to replicate sounds or music of the past.

And really... I think he was far more interesting as a result.
    Never Ever Bloody Anything Ever.
