So what counts as Vintage then?

    Over 25?

    Pre-1965?

Only if it's in the Vintage Guitar Price Guide?

In the guitar world I've always been led to believe that it's anything up to 1969.

I've always been under the impression it's anything that Rick or Justin Harrison are selling.....

    See I'm undecided on this.

Up to 65 and it's Ted McCarty for Gibson and pre-CBS for Fender.

After 65 numbers go up, but after 70 you get the real boom and the drop in quality.

But there's also some classics in the 80s.

To to be honest you could have a new forum with the sole purpose of discussing what constitutes vintage.

Um, if you look back at the OP guys, the idea was wider than just vintage. It proposed a central knowledge base for tech data.  This would include a vintage section but also a section for other tech info, in a central place eg everything from how to change and pot pups, to rewiring mods etc.
I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

Yeah...the thread was about links to the excellent articles on vintage guitars, but the idea (prompted by that) was for a centralised tech data base..and I even gave the Valvetronix.net link to demonstrate the concept.  If you haven't yet done so do pop in for a look through.

    Sorry I was being facetious.

To be honest I think the idea of a forum with links to tech data, articles and other great stuff is brilliant - and would be one of the best additions to the Fretboard I could think of.

I guess the question is moderating it - you want quality in there and that can be difficult to keep tabs on. Not a reason not to do it though. Just something to think about.

At Vtronix although the topics could be discussed in the normal forum all contributions were vetted/selected by select team who were the only ones who could post in the tech section (with a mention/ credit for contributor of course). As the tech section had no discussion access, subsequent moderation wasnt a problem.

So, you might split that section of the FB to have a tech section for vintage, another for other tech articles ( both for housing articles only, no discussion) but with discussion open to all in sub discussion forum.  Contributions would be from tech team, or FB members would send articles etc to them for consideration and inclusion.

That would work. You need to find willing volunteers to give up their time I guess.. But quality control is important, or it loses value quickly

Agreed on all counts - not just willing, but preferably technically knowledgeable and with sensible judgement.

Ooof that's quite a combination! I suspect you need a mix with different specialisms and skills - and most importantly a relatively moderate opinion so there isn't a bias towards one opinion/way of thinking or another.

To contribute their own tech articles, tech skills are vital.  But most folk can sensibly vet suggested links/articles found on the net by members - mostly its just common sense to ensure its not partly an advert, or lacking sufficient technical substance.

Have you run it past any of the mods at all yet?

Nope - just floated the idea on open forum to see if it had any legs. (To be honest, I'm not completely sure who all the mods are)

Having the 'Vintage' brand logo on the headstock of course. Duh!.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it
