and while I'm on it, each Dawsons is just a bunch of USA Gibsons and fenders, and a load of  midrange  guitars and amps. Definitely a scaled-up mom & pop

Agreed - the comparison was meant to be disparaging.

  • Sounds Great is still good.  Lots of nice amps and not a bit like Dawsons (which has actually been a bit later when I've been in lately).  SG have a good selection of very nice amps (Soldano, Suhr, Carr, Fargen, Cornell) and will usually match or beat online prices.  You can play guitars as much as you like and just spend an hour there without feeling like you must buy something.  Nice guitars too, Fender, Suhr, etc.  My only critisism would be there seem to be lots of very expensive guitars and quite a few lower end but not so many mid range.  Also no PRS, CS Fender or Gibson, but then again not many shops sell everything and there are shops not too far away that cover those.

  • PMT Manchester is worth looking at also, they have a massive range of gear.

I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

    Whitchurch is in Shropshire!

That being the case you are only an hour away from Mid Wales music in Newtown

    (Whitchurch > Oswestry > Welshpool > Newtown)

Just leave your wallet in the car.

    :-)

    It's not a shopping site, it's a shop.

I've bought loads of used gear from Phil over the years, usually at the sort of prices you'd expect in a private sale, too.

It's always worth throwing something you no longer use in the boot before you go, he does good trade-in deals.
