Guthrie plays "Thunderbird" from Thelma and Louise live with Hans Zimmer.

String pops at 3:52 right in the middle of his solo. Pulls it back like a pro.

Just off to the left is Mike Einziger off of Incubus playing banjo.

  • Absolutely incredible.

Also, amazing how he dealt with the string break and had the presence of mind to go to slide, because I'm guessing it's a floating trem so the whole guitar would have gone out of tune.

    Thanks for posting.

@english_bob it was there when I looked. If you edited your post you probably need to reinsert the video. People need to see this.

  • Tried again.

It's very impressive. Nice to hear him in a sort of Jeff Beck/David Gilmour mode instead of the sort of insanity you get with The Aristocrats.

  • The man is an alien. I saw the Manchester show. Honestly an incredible concert.

  • I've long had the idea that his brain simply works faster than normal humans' do - when you watch him playing, even the insane quick stuff, you get the impression that he's actively choosing each note that he plays rather than relying on muscle memory.

The quick bend to get back to pitch and then the jump to slide in this are just more proof of that. The rest of us would've hit a couple of off-pitch notes, showered the people around us with expletives and stopped until a suitable replacement guitar could be found.

    Outstanding.

I'm certain Guthrie is one of those players who hears the melodies in his head and can then transfer them to fretboard instantly.  I read a comment on the JTC Youtube that most of his solos he does there are recorded in the first take.

    Utterly incredible.

I'm also happy to hear him play that piece, I've loved it for years. I think it was Pete Haycock on the original soundtrack.

That's incredible, I've never really "got" Guthrie, but hearing this made me inclined to give it another go.

My favourite string break video thus far has been this one:

Yes it was. I looked it up to see whether it was one of those 80s soundtracks with a famous guitar player providing the squiddlies. It wasn't.

I've seen this a couple of times now. always amazing to see. you wouldn't even really notice it unless you were looking for it.
This is a great clip too, he's such a humble man. Hans Zimmerman showing him some respect. Also contains Johnny marr and his treacle top.

I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

Also impressive was the way the stage crew acted: collecting another guitar during the keyboard changeover, then crouching at the edge of the playing area so that Guthrie could decide whether he wanted to swap

  • What an incredible recovery on an unrecoverable guitar.

Unfazed too, what a superb talent our Guthrie is, just astonishing   =D>

  • I saw that yesterday when I found the first video I posted. The suspicious Facebook contact from "someone claiming to be Hans Zimmer" made me chuckle.

Liked the playing and the quick thinking.
Not so keen on the sound of the guitar. It was far too dominant.

He is. Unbelievably enough, he is for sure.
