I prefer Mascis as a drummer.

  • His solo on 'Out There' is one of my favourites of all time - it's transcendental in its beauty!   He's the Fuzzmaster General...
Not much of the gear, even less idea.

Fuck me there's some horrible over-saturated fuzz bollocks going on there.

TBH, I love Jazzmasters but it was Mascis that *put me off* them for years. That flubby, over-fuzzed sound just does nothing for me - and his solos bore the tits off me.

Sorry to the fans, but no... just no.

I love J so much and his approach to pedals and stuff is so reasonable, it's the general approach that is counter-intuitive.

I like DJ and Mascis, but sometimes I wish he'd just stop soloing. He can't really solo anyway. It's just endless masturbatory widdling.

I guess that's kinda the point though.

  • Lasted a minute... I can't take no more
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

I'd watch the whole like...video, but like yeah I've seen enough like beginners and like teenagers mucking about tonelessly with like stuff and like to watch like a rock star like doing the same thing and then ummm talking like he's tired of like life and stuff.

Well he did admit he bought his JM because he didn't quite have enough money for the Strat he really wanted. ;)

He has also told how he uses Tele's and LP Jr's to record with.

Will never forget being blown away by DJ at a wee club back in 1988. J is one of the very few that took rock guitar and made it punk. A true alt- icon.

I'm not sure he wanted actually wanted to be there, I wonder if someone had said "Talk about your pedals or we shoot the kittens".

I was at Reading 93 (my band played on Friday) but we had to leave early on the Sunday to get back up the road.

  • His approach to pedals is hardly a revelation.

However, the orientation of his JM's toggle is weird. Why wouldn't you have it turned 90 degrees to it's up/down rather than left/right?
