Hitting wrong strings, sloppy fingering etc etc.

  • I just put the guitar down on days like that and try again when I'm feeling brighter.

Maybe if you put down the whiskey bottle you might get somewhere.

Days when the guitar is quite clearly in tune but your ears aren't - very annoying.

Haha totally! Just recently I was trying to demonstrate a solo that had a couple of oblique bends in it to my guitar teacher, trying to show the different ways I'd cock up on them.

    Hit every damn one perfect.

An hour later at home though, nope! Haha

  • Yup.  And also days where my rig sounds terrible despite using the same guitar and amp settings as yesterday- when this combination sounded awesome.

Those are the days when I go play my banjo- I've had it a couple of months so am supposed to be rubbish at it.

All the right notes, not always in the right order!

I quite agree. Personally when nothing goes right on the guitar, I try less taxing things like brain surgery, unknotting pieces of string, juggling, a game of 'Operation' and so on.

I don't gig now (but that might be changing soon)  - but recall that what you try at home works well, works less well at rehearsal, and even worse live - confidence and experience required

like a good golfer can have a bad day, a good muso will have  them as well

    You're doing this all wrong.

Don't count the bad days, count the good ones.
    It's just brighter that way.

But yes, the amount of times i could smash the thing...........

    *Happy place*

I just love playing! Im really not great at all but I enjoy it, so when I have an off day I'm like damn... usually put it down for the day, and end up feeling like I've missed a day haha!

It's when you can't blame it on your gear....."must be the strings...Yes definitely the strings....I never had this problem with Ernie balls....oh it's this plectrum"
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

    It's this overdrive pedal.

I find a bottle of Merlot usually makes things sound much better.
