Both started their careers in very late 1950's
As this thread wasn't delimited to rock'n'rollers, I thought I should mention John Pisano, who was great on the GuitarWank podcast (episodes 31[1] and 46[2]) the other week and will soon be 86. He was in pro bands from 1952.
Scott Henderson played him some Meshuggah and they discussed its similarities to South American rhythms. \m/ \m/
Such "djenting" brings to mind an early user of the seven-string guitar: Bucky Pizzarelli, who's now 91. Active in the 40s already.
