    Also............

    The riff is in G
    Gm?
    Nope, G major.
The song is in G but you referred to the riff ...the riff fingering is in a Gm shape.
I just played a G Minor and it sounds wrong.
The whole riff is a G major chord. You play up to the 5th for the riff so the minor doesn't come into it.
If you play the minor it just sounds wrong.

I'm not understanding how a minor comes into play here ?
Even in between the riff it's a major chord and you have to do that so you can stitch that in between the riff ?

How and when are you playing a Minor ?
No, you're misunderstanding me - to help explain to someone how to play it the notes on the 6,5 &4 strings played on the 3rd & 5th fret are the notes of the Gm chord.  You're not playing a Gm per-se, but its the same note positions and fingering.
I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

I'd have thought a Tele would be a pretty good choice for Paperback Writer.

There are two possible explanations for your difficulty:

    1) You can't actually play Paperback Writer at all - and unfairly maligning your Telecaster, or

    2) Your too pissed to play anything - and are unfairly maligning your Telecaster and your own ability.
    Several more explanations:

    3. Holding the guitar wrong.
    4. The amp needs to be switched on.
    5. And staying with amps, is it a Vox AC30?
    6. Where have all the strings gone?

You're not the late Eric Morecambe in disguise ... playing all the right notes .... just not in the right order?

  • Michael Schenker's 'Captain Nemo'. There is a flurry of notes right at the start of the main riff that I just can't get my head around. Despite slowing it down and having a Phil Hilbourne transcription and annoyingly seeing a small Japanese schoolgirl play it flawlessly on Youtube,  I can't nail it.
