last song on Night of the Guitar tour with Leslie West/Steve Howe/Guys from Wishbone Ash/and a host of others jammin'
on stage for the last song encore Johnny B Goode

10 guys trying tae out volume each other was too much for me and I left early
Trying to out-volume Leslie West is unwise. I saw him at the Renfrew Ferry, with a Peavey guitar through a Zoom 9002 and two Marshall Super Leads... thankfully I was in the gallery behind the stage so the cabinets weren't pointing at me, but he was still staggeringly loud.

I do recall a story from around that time about Bonnett dragging some bloke with a guitar out from behind the stacks and yelling, "This is the guy who plays the bits the german can't".
Steve Casey, the offstage rhythm guitar playing roadie.  That was the same show Bonnet got his cock out and got sacked.
I just laughed like an absolute drain at that!

Dredging the memory banks for other rock stars who lobbed their old feller out during a gig.  I can only come up (ahem) with Jim Morrison.

Think I have posted this before but Dylan at Brixton Academy was certainly one that sticks in my mind. I know it can be hard to get Dylan on a good night but him mumbling into a too far away microphone and the band struggling to have any idea of where he was going most of the time. The guitarist and drummer played fixated on where his hands were going to go next and the drummer looking for cue to wrap it up. I think I managed about an hour and maybe it got better but for that 60 mins he just rambled and mumbled songs most new and from the way the band played them written on the fly.

anyway won’t be going back for more.
Was that around the mid or late 90's ? As I had similar in Dublin around then and did exactly the same. Went with a friend and fellow Dylan fan, I don't think we even managed 30 mins.

Seen him put on excellent shows since, though.

Worse again was Spiritualized, I think around the same time but in US. They were late, like well late. And when they eventually turned up they didn't seem to know where they were, or who they were or the why of anything. Lights on and the place emptied fairly fast.

I can only assume you never saw The Cramps then? Lux had his out at a multitude of shows.

With the benefit of reflection I seem to recall Iggy Pop was quite fond of getting his nob out on stage.

Almost. Radiohead at the 3Arena in Dublin. Sound/acoustics was so bad, and crowd so rude, just talking all the time. The drone of drunkards talking drowned out the music at times. You could barely hear what Yorke was saying between songs. Just a muffled sound. The fact that the standing ticket cost €90 persuaded us to stay. Put me off arena gigs for good. Though I did see Don Henley at the same venue and the sound was excellent. Different type of gig though.

Bon Jovi at Wembley Arena on the Slippery When Wet album tour.  Jon BJ's voice was terrible, as was the sound. Richie's voice, was excellent, and that's always been the case but I walked out after 15 mins.

The Style Council, also at Wembley Arena. Dull as dishwater

The only concert I've had to leave halfway through was due to it being cancelled whilst inside the venue and it was Gary Moore at the Town & Country during his blues period. The place was packed, the beer was flowing and the support band, Jumping the Gun (with the late great Alan Darby on guitar), had just finished a stonking support slot set and we were all ready for GM. Then someone came on to say 'That due to illness in the band,  they would not be performing tonight. I knew Alan Darby and he came on stage after the announcement to pack down his stuff and I asked him, what was going on and it was Gary Moore who wasn't able to play - he suffered from Tinnitus and was going crazy back stage with it, kicking things and punching the walls.

Yeah I was there for that too. The support band were incredible and me and my mate were like wow Gary is gonna be great, was so hyped up. And it was such a disappointment. If they ever rescheduled that gig I certainly never found out about it. I did get to see him after that though when he was supporting BB King at Wembley arena.

Wilco Johnson headlined at a festival me and Mrs Monster frequent annually. Was a few years ago now -he was f@ckin awful. Totally out of time with the rest of the band (only a drummer and bassist!) obviously he or they weren’t getting the IEMs signal properly (perhaps?) I thought after a couple of numbers they would have got it right but no he did the whole set out of time with the rest of the band. It was dreadful we only stayed for the first couple of songs but as we were camping we could hear the whole set from the tent. Just awful!
Shame really saw him many years ago in a little venue and he was awesome!

Allan Holdsworth at the Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh in the early 90s (1992, I think). I think he had Stu Hamm in the band.

I went with a small group of friends and it was just soulless. His playing and tone had all of the edges smoothed off so much it was like a midi keyboard running scales.

We were all looking forward to it and were big fans of some of his work but I think we lasted about a third of the set and left.

My experience also I'm afraid.  Unfortunately he was awful on both occasions I saw him so I prefer to remember his time with Dr Feelgood, who I loved.

I don't think he did reschedule it and we got refunds. As you say, the support band really warmed him up and it had all the makings of a fabulous night and it was a very late call but maybe they knew earlier on and were happy making some money behind the bar and on the merch to save something of the evening.

Manic Street Preachers at Halifax Piece Hall a couple of years ago.  The sound was awful and they kept shining the lights into the audience.  It might have been where I was, but it was blinding.  I stuck it for about 4 or 5 songs and then left.  My mates who were there with me said the sound didn't improve.  I know it wasn't the venue or the PA, as Sea Power, who were one of the support bands, had an excellent sound.

Wow, I thought it only happened to me! I've got  along list but the most notable:

    • Marcus King, Electric Ballroom, Camden - stayed for two songs, awful sound
    • Joe Bonamassa - Cambridge Corn Exchange. One song blended into another and I could only take so many blistering solo's before it just got boring
    • GA20, Norwich Arts Centre - nothing much to see, all hype IMO
    • Several notable gigs where I got over excited and drank too much before the gig and walked out after a couple of songs to get back to the pub! Yes, I know I was an idiot, missed some great bands doing that

It's a shame Gary Moore is no longer alive and gigging - we could have produced the Gary Moore Gig Bingo Card.

    • Amp so loud it makes your internal organs bleed
    • Getting narky with someone in the audience for calling him "Gazza"
    • Stopping playing because someone shouted for Still Got The Blues"
There's plenty of options and combinations available

Disclaimer - big fan of Gary Moore - saw him live loads and have the tinnitus to prove it

I know what you mean but they can have their moments. Frusciante going mad during extended outros could be interesting.

Also another band that liked getting their knobs out though!
