I don't think a fan inside an amp is without precedent. Jesse puts a fan inside the Lazy J20 to cool the power transformer and I think some Mesa Boogies and Ampeg amps use a fan (I also seem to recall some people in a forum complaining about fan noise in one of the Bogner amps).
Mesas do have some issues with board design which is a separate argument. Suhrs and Friedman's are PCB and are very reliable, reliable enough that Suhr include a lifetime warranty.
